i think that it may reassure some, but i have always viewed it as being a factory fitted anti tamper device
having said that most of us are nervous about this kind of thing as we are not used to doing it - so, for piece of mind it may be a good idea!
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Nope
It's a belt-and-braces anti-vibration measure

It says that in the handbook for my sl chip. It doesn't however say what to use.

I have no idea what it is. I presume it was put there by Aprilia.

Oh haha! You funny man!

I was referring to the label.
Forgive me if the tongue-in-cheek humour does not translate well. I'm not having a good time at the moment.
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Unsuccessful. I get a fault code -1 when the chip is in and a lot of clicking. That is all
Oh well, a forza chip it'll be then.

-1 is the throttle position sensor reading.
You shouldn't get this unless the diag wires are plugged together - which they shouldn't be.
Where's the clicking from and when do you get it? Is it the starter relay?

Could also be the fuel pump priming when you turn the key?

So .... are the diag wires connected together?
The noise will be the starter relay. Probably needs a new relay but it could be the state of your battery.
