Am I correct in saying that the rear lights are standard 1157? Any clearance issues with led bulbs?

yep and no

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

If you do go for LED bulbs, make sure you go for the type with some side LEDs as well as rear facing. This type are mainly used for the stop lights and light up the alloy reflector much better with the red LEDs.
Also get bulbs with the most LEDs you can get.
The first lot I bought had no side LEDs and only 8 or so rear facing.
They just lit a ring the size of the bulb, so I got rid.
There are plenty to choose from on Ebay, mine came from Hong Kong, were cheap and came very quickly, not had any problems at all.

Figured it out.. I take off the existing round light lenses, cut a 'sunglasses frame' shape plate to act as a convertor plate for the slightly different screw hole positions and then screw the glass lenses to that. Will look great when done and definitely not following the crowd..

The crowd will be following you at a discrete distance and waiting till you leave the bike unattended.

Then they'll nick your custom lights...

Only kiddin'... :smt003
