To quote from their website:
OptiMate and AccuMate chargers are designed to cope with a myriad of different possible battery conditions and assess, recover, charge, maintain and monitor the battery perfectly, over many months if necessary, and to do this entirely automatically with no user input required.

Theyre an intelligent box of tricks, rather than a charger, theyre more of a maintenance and conditioning unit ...a bit like an R2 unit, but without the squiddly diddly squeak... or the ability to project pics of Princess Leiya

Bless

Tell me Tim, do you look up to the R2 units?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

If the unit itself is going to live outside may be worth bodging sorry carefully and painfully constructing an insulated box of some kind for protection ?

Or a cheap solar trickle charger as an option....

Can't even get the flipping solar garden lights to give more light than a flaming fart never mind charge a big fek off battery ... Though I have just chuckled at the idea of one of those wind up torch type things to charge the bike every time you go out ! :smt005

if you had to slightly raise your head, I assume you were having a quiet lie down after falling off a scooter??

just to update on this topic, had no cutting out since last post and i did get in about the wiring and cleaned switches etc, have now got an optimate and that'll be getting hooked up soon. only have one final mild gremlin in that if braking and indicating with main beam on the indicator will slow or even stop flashing, may be a switch issue as there are times that going left takes two attempts on the switch. a mechanical question i have is that the motor, in neutral, clutch in- quiet motor, clutch out- a bit rattly, is this common or should i be concerned?

I fear that you may soon be getting a new battery...

While the bike is parked and on charge, try the same check

I'm thinking maybe a bad earth or corroded connection, had a similar effect on the car at mot and it was corroded bulb connection. The battery was new about april so i'll see what improvement the optimate brings.
