So now I'm looking at this http://www.studentcomputers.co.uk/Dell_ ... 05252.htmlTablets wont use a dongle, a netbook (small laptop) will.
Whatcha fink? Have looked at reviews of the vendors, they seem ok but I wonder just what Grade B+ means............
I will pop into our local computer shop and see if he has anything.........
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
Grade B will mean it's scratched or knocked but decent enough to use. Expect the battery not to hold charge. I'd consider it overpriced to be fair..
It's a lappy from about 2005 and fairly chunky and weighty, definately not earth-shattering performance-wise. I bought my missus one very very similar (when her other decent lappy died a death ) which cost about 75 quid.
I'd keep looking. I bought a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 for 80 quid, which is much more up to date. There are some decent lappys to be had.

Well that's the thing - some places will have Wifi - but fields are not well known for it....... On the other hand, I have no idea whether a field on Shetland will have much in the way of phone signal either.........
But I'm kinda thinkning if I'm going to spend a bit of money it might be sensible to spend a little bit more to get something slightly more versatile.

Yes I had one of those at work a good few years back. I've had another laptop since ...... which is supposed to have been replaced by now.
Those 610s were nicely built but it will be dog slow now.
Not sure if they have anything that you would be after but Dell's own Outlet Store has some genuine bargains - all backed by a manufacturer's warranty.
Basically they are refurbed returns of recent/current models. Dell stick a load on each day and you need to be sharp to grab them before someone else does.

Nice piece of kit in their day but somewhat off the mark now.
That said, would be fine for browsing etc but boot times may require a calendar (though with a freshly installed non-demanding OS, that can be largely addressed)

Bought one a couple of years ago. Very close to the then current spec but two thirds of the price. Looked and worked like a new one. Didn't come loaded with mountains of pointless crap either. Only fly in the ointment was it took three weeks to arrive from China which is our local service centre...D-Rider wrote:Dell's own Outlet Store has some genuine bargains - all backed by a manufacturer's warranty.
