Hope I bought the right shock here..

Thanks Mango. Can you stick with the stock Falco linkage and respring the AP840 shock, or does the linkage geometry prevent this?mangocrazy wrote:Nice one, Irich. That's the same one I have and it's a top-quality piece of kit. The hydraulic preload adjuster is a godsend when taking a passenger, as well. I've always used Revs racing and they have been top notch. Revs are a small concern and you deal with the same guy that does the work; with a firm like K-Tech you can never be sure who's doing the work.
That shock will need a set of triangles and dogbone from a 2001-2003 RSV or 2002-2005 Tuono. Neither of the parts are interchangeable with Falco items. Personally, given the apparently excellent state of the shock, I'd try it out before getting it serviced. That way you'll be able to tell if the spring rate and damping are suited to you. Personally I found that the standard spring rate was too hard and I went with a spring that was 12-15% softer than standard.
It all depends on your weight and riding style/preferences, really. Only you know what you prefer.
You can - and that's what Mango has done ...... however you will probably need to re-valve it to match as well.irich wrote:

Swapping the linkages is easier

Thanks Drider. Looks like I'm looking for linkages then.D-Rider wrote:You can - and that's what Mango has done ...... however you will probably need to re-valve it to match as well.irich wrote:

As Andy has said, it can be done, and I'm very happy with the result. But it was a bit of a faff and required a new spring and a re-valve. I did it because I wasn't happy with the way the RSV dogbone was rubbing on my newly-painted hugger (the RSV dogbone is appreciably longer than the Falco one).irich wrote:Thanks Mango. There is a (suitably long-winded) thread on it somewhere in the Falco section.

Looks like standard Falco shaped bits to me. There's some pictures and measurements on this thread.irich wrote:
Will this fit the Falco and the Ohlins I have bought? I'm assuming 'no' based on the suspension guide, given the model year.

Where ever I lay my hat.....
Yes standard Falco and early Mille (there were Ohlins equipped bikes that used that linkage).irich wrote:Advices requested:

I am informed that this is off a late 2000 Mille R that was fitted with a standard Ohlins.

Not what you are looking for I'm afraid.
I'm guessing "late 2000" is more of a registration date.

Guys, I'm getting a bit confused now. I've been on the 'other site' and their Falco suspension guide indicates that the AP840 is a direct replacement for the Sachs and does not require linkages from the Tuono or RSV?D-Rider wrote:Yes standard Falco and early Mille (there were Ohlins equipped bikes that used that linkage).irich wrote:Advices requested:

Description on Ebay was: '46PRC AP840 from RSVRMille to fit up to a 2001 Mille, may fit others'

my take on it
the ohlins you have is a replacement part for the 2001+ mille's
there was ONE very early type of aprilia produced ohlins that fits straight in - it does not have a remote preload
they are rare - I have seen a coupe and had one myself - Jay / Blinkey now has it
By co incidence the one I now have is like yours - and it did need the correct linkages to perform correctly
this thread http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/show ... king+horse says a little bit more about it
and the original ridersite discussion is at https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.ph ... sc&start=0
hope that clarifies it

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
I've never been convinced that guide is 100% correct so I never refer to it.irich wrote: Guys, I'm getting a bit confused now. I think that generally it's pretty good but maybe not entirely so.

thats the one Ben
they are rare.... and i suspect that if you were to open your front door about now you would be able to see some birds starting to circle up high.....
so, how much is it worth me not disclosing your telephone numbers??
:)
(Other folks numbers are really common - Tim's are always advertised in garden centres, look under lawn ornaments for hire, Mart's in the LeatherMan catalog under comfie slippers while andy's are to be found in many a gents toilet... allegedly)
