Which is of real annoyance. Bike engines by design are cleaner.. But that's not the issue.. Bikes are now seen by the powers that be as a luxury item. If my conversation with Carole Nash insurers was anything to go by that is.D-Rider wrote:.... though not in the case of motorcycles - which is why some bikes pay more than some cars but may (or may not) give less emissions.Willopotomas wrote: These days it's based on emissions which is another way to extort money from us
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handle bars to the saddle.

Back on the political theme -
Politicians - shoot the feckin lot of them
.
Maggie the bitch, gave us back some pride with efforts by our lads in the Falklands but destoyed our entire industrial heritage, the mining communities, (plus many others) and most of the roads in mining areas. The Tories had also shafted the steel industry a few years before.
I lived in a mining village (Kiveton) during the strike, live a mile outside these days. Everybody knew everybody in the village and the lads left school and followed their fathers and grandfathers down the pit.
They did not work as hard as they should at school, the girls always did better, but the lads knew that GCSEs meant nothing much where they were going. Some may think this a sad outlook, (it probably was), but they worked hard and made good money if they put the hours in. At the weekend they drank hard and the pubs were always full, but never had the trouble associated with drink these days. If trouble started their work mates would step in give em a slap and tell em not to be so feckin stupid, they had another pint and a laugh.
Many of the miners never worked again, and the sons and grandsons never did much better, some of em still dream about gettin a proper man's job, but all know that will never happen. Most of the pubs are now shut.
Maggie killed villages and towns like this, but to leave a lasting legacy, she had concrete poured down the mineshaft of every closed pit, so they could never be worked again, didn't want the miners coming back to haunt her. The roads and houses came back to haunt us though, as we have had massive subsidence ever since as all the really old mine shafts and eventually the later ones collapsed as no one could maintain them any more.
Maggie -
That nice EEC lot gave us many millions to help revitalise the rundown mining communities
Every government since has sat on this money and never spent it.
Last Tory Blair Goverment actually told us it was still there, and would still be spent, never did.
Tory Blair - talked a nice game originally, but still a lying twat like all the rest -
Whilst we are talking about him, he tried to privatise everything and did much more damage that Maggie ever dreamed of.
So many areas of Local Government were privatised to ensure we got a worse service for more cost and lots of big companies went away rubbing their hands.
PFI hospitals and schools, total robbery and ridiculous running costs.
Tory Blair and Georgie Bwanker Brown nose the Bwankers friend.
Destroyed the country and then allowed the bwankers to pay massive bonus for being such great people.
Tory Blair and Georgie Brown nose -
And now the latest duo to save the world (and I used to like Cleggie).
Can't tax the rich, they don't like paying and either employ good accountants or bugger off and live in a tax haven, we never made any money from this tax anyway so not worth it.
Bollocks!
How many banks have recently announced that they have hundreds of people who have earned over a million this year.
If a thousand or so Bwankers have earned over a million this year, that brings in £500 million in tax for starters.
Then add in all the footballers who work so hard for so little money, (plus all their pets who have bank acccounts), plus the TV pundits, stupid celebs, Wossie and all, who also pocket millions. This lot alone adds up to a fair chunk of tax, but no it's too hard to collect and never equated to anything. so lets cut it.
Let's hit the poor and middle earners a bit harder in stead, tax fuel, fags and booze like we always do, they'll moan a bit but always pay up!
Devious Dave and nasty Nick -
Sorry I can't seem to recall any good politicians these days.
Oh and one last thing, after they've all been shot, we need to make sure the survivors go to an emergency hospital in a late arriving ambulace, where the casualty section has been shut down as they can't afford to run one any more.
Rant over, I'm off to bed now.
Oh by the way did I ever tell you I can't stand Politicians

Personally I've always believed if you have the money you should do everything you legally can to keep it out of the government hands.
There was an interesting comment I think in the Daly Mail last week or so that said if you're eslf employed then you should set up a management company for that purpose. I agree with that after all its the self employed who have carried this country for far to long.

I have no problem with that, it's just that there should not be as many ways for the very rich to achieve this!Gio wrote: Personally I've always believed if you have the money you should do everything you legally can to keep it out of the government hands.

The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.
Personally I've always believed that if you earn enough to pay tax you should be glad to contribute to the common purse to defray the costs of the services from which we all benefit, pay for the medical treatment of those who are unfortunate enough to be sick and provide reasonable assistance to those who are going through hard times.Gio wrote: Personally I've always believed if you have the money you should do everything you legally can to keep it out of the government hands.

.... though we are only asked to pay on the bit that exceeds the threshold and higher rates at the bits that exceed the higher thresholds.
The principle is fine but the jumps are perhaps too great .... except the jump to the very top rate by those that can afford it most comes at too high a threshold and at the smallest jump of all.
Rates of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% at appropriate thresholds would be a less frightening jump.
There again, maybe scrap personal income tax and concentrate on taxing businesses. The revenue would be able to concentrate their resources on fewer "customers" and maybe make a more effective job of things.
The difficult thing then would be to provide some regulation of the gap between the fat cats and those near the bottom of a company's pay scales.
