I was also underwhelmed with the front brake.
I reckon the first choice is brake pads. I can't imagine brembo actually
making a really poor brake.
my last bike, ZX7R had OK brakes, I tried EBC HH and they became great brakes.
that'll be what I try first.
I had braided hoses on anyway. To be honest I've never notice braided hoses
made much difference myself. Maybe I have wooden hands.

I always seem the give the lever at squeeze when the wheel is off. It's like the 'don't press' red button syndrome.
I agree about the strip of hardwood. Except I use 6mm plywood.
