For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Don't tell me; some numpty has wired up your starter motor to run backwards????? no wait.......that numpty was me
Go on put us out of our misery...............after my problem apparently "fixed itself" I'm keen to hear what other "whirring" noises can be attributed to

Well, I removed the alternator cover with the intention of tightening the sprag clutch spring, and was met with the sight below:

All three of the bolts that mount the sprag to the back of the flywheel were rolling around inside the rotor, with bits of magnet and copper wire. The flywheel is a bit mangled on the inside, but I hope it's save-able. The stator on the other hand, is fucked:

So I pulled the flywheel off, and found that the bolts hadn't come loose, they'd all sheared off!

At least the sprag seems to be in good condition!
So I now need a replacement stator, or to get the existing unit re-wound. Anyone got one kicking around, or know a place that could repair it for a suitable sum?
It would also be handy to know which models the stator is common across, I would guess the <04 RSV is a pretty safe bet, how about the later models?

The ends of the sheared bolts can be spun out of the sprag easily, so I guess loctite wasn't used when it was last (first?) put together.
If the bolts came loose they'd be taking the turning force rather than contact between the flywheel and sprag, possibly resulting in the mess above.
Options so far either seem to be getting the stator re-wound for about £130 or an aftermarket replacement from eBay costing £80 that needs the connector soldering on.
