I have tried it, Samray! This is where I confess that I am employed in the Scotch Whisky industry and frequently have to nose and taste different whiskies. I am, however, not an expert but in my opinion Ardbeg 10yo is probably the most challenging Islay malt.

cough mixture filtered through deer dung.
Nowt wrong with a bit of dung, I even smoked Marlboro for a while ... probably where the experience of cough mixtuere came from. :smt002
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

I enjoy drinking all sorts of relatively 'off-the wall'stuff - grappa, tequila, slivovic, hruskovic, absinthe - but I've never been able to acquire a taste for Scotch. A while ago, on a boys' weekend , I tried a 28-year old single malt in the hotel; it may have been most carefully matured, and given the utmost solicitude during its maturation, but it still brought to mind nostalgia for Nitromors, and memories of siphoning petrol for the first time. As far as whiskey is concerned, I much prefer Irish, especially a a nice, smooth, creamy single malt
