what the hell is a 6T?
by the way hairdryer and wd40 didnt do the trick - will have another look at the weekend.
any other ideas greatly appreciated.
You know, although the bike is out of action I must admit to enjoying this fettling malarky - if i get it going again without the need of a so called professional I can see much reward.
Got a lot of learning to do but its satisfying stuff...

LEEMAN wrote:So the bike was out of action during the icy spell, however during the period of 2 weeks I thought it might be an idea to start her up and have her running for about 5 mins just to keep her oiled and in good order during the cold weather.
Everything was working before the bad spell and the bike has just had a good full service.
I went to start her up on Friday morning to go to work and unfortunately poor old Ruby just wasnt firing - so I thought maybe the battery was dead.
Over the weekend I took out the battery, tested it and was at full charge, gave it a bit longer on the optimiser just in case any way.
Put the battery back in and the bike still didnt start, the starter motor was working, there was almost an ignition and the bike almost spluttered but not quite and when i tried a second time it had completely given up.
What else could it be?
Any ideas from the exalted ones?
How are you starting it? Not touching the throttle? twisting the throttle? Whats the bike position.. sidestand down, etc?
Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly
yeh for the most part side stand down - during the cold spell had it on padock when it started
would the angle have something to do with it if been standing still for a week?
did attempt to start with a bit of throttle (not my usual method but thought it might need it)
so generally no throttle or the tiniest of twisting

Angle shouldnt affect it, just making sure all the info was there ready for when Alad, D-Rider et al start looking for other solutions as to what could be up with it.
I think sidestand cut out switch and tilt sensor problems are cancelled out by how far the bike gets towards starting, but Im sure the Falco Gurus will be along shortly to dissect further..

so - the bike is turning over, but not firing at all?
when you first turn on the bike, do you hear the fuel pump whine/whirr??
do you have an immobiliser alarm?
The bike ran fine prior to the cold snap - so I think we can rule out the tipover switch etc
BUT - I would have a close look at that side stand switch - I would suggest that shorting across pin 1 and 3 with a paper clip - the connector is under the left side of the petrol tank - pop it part and short across - then see if it fires.....
next, that right hand switch - pop it apart and clean and wd40 - that engine off switch can give some funny symptoms.....
finally, pop one of the plugs out - you may well be flooded.....
(Oh - starting - ignition on, fast idle set to full. prime the throttle twice then leave it alone - press the starter)
hope that helps

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
