Hi Tweaker, i'm afraid i'm one of those who hasn't got a clue what you've just said or what i'm doing, Martdude and DRider have recomended a battery to get so that's on order...knowing my luck it will be something else :smt011 . Will have a go at fitting at weekend if i'm around, apreciate the nod though

i'd suspect the battery too. is it a sealed? or are there filler plugs on top? check the outer sides of the battery, if they seem to balloon out rather than have straight sides, then the battery is proper fekked.

I see you're in West Yorkshire somewhere -I'm not around this weekend (persuing my other hobby of diving :smt003 ) but if you're anywhere near the Hudd I can help out next week if you need it.
The ride is the reason ........ the destination is just the excuse.

cheers for the offer Tweaker but although i live north of Bradford same village as 'Herbatious' the bikes lives in Leics at my parents, DRider always offers to help (he's not far away in Cov) when i get in a flap about stuff but usually get it sorted somehow.

Just a bit frustrating not being able to work on it until everyother weekend...sure hope it is the battery though

New battery fitted as you'd all recomended, pressed button and boom, fired away :smt005 ...oh the relief! K & N filter fitted too

Starter relay on order as a recomended, have found location, seems straight forward enough

Thank you again all!!

**DRider- just one thing, when i came to flip the holding bracket in place the recess between the terminals wasn't as wide as it should have been, i took some of the 'spacing' out of the bottom and it is sort of held in place now, was it the same with yours or have they sent me the wrong model?

The shape of the top of the YTX and YTZ batteries is different. As I said in the thread where I described fitting my YTZ, I had to make up spacers for both top and bottom - the top one just fills the top clamp in the area that the YTX battery would fill.

for spacers, read "bits of wood I had lying around that I cut to length"
