Now before you all think they has used a cheap crappy set of bolt cutters take it from me they had then turned their attention to the ground anchor and unbelievably managed to cut clean through the anchor for about 50mm before finally realising that the bike wasn't worth it (it never was trust me)

I was amazed at the quality of this kit, and have no problems in recommending it to anyone

Thanks F9 - that's very reassuring .... I use one of those on my Falco when it's garaged!

I'm confident that most of the kit is of good quality - and I have bought bike things from there - but helmets that may have been bounced are more of a concern. I guess the same could happen at a bike shop but at least the punters and staff would have more knowledge of the risks than your average staff and punters in a cut-price supermarket.

Aye, Cant but agree with you there! I did once buy a helmet from Marktkauf in Belm (Germany) once. A cheap one pretty much like those at Lidl. The Germans were better at looking after the kit they sell. Decent shelving for it, etc, etc all boxed with a demo helmet out for public abuse. I guess Lidl / Aldi Uk's layout and shelving (lack of it) hampers them from selling in a more appropriate manner. Shame really.

I couple of my mates went to get some gear from Aldi's last sale and couldn't because of a lot of folks bought up the stocks and put them on e-bay

So I hope they put a limit an the amount you can buy

so genuine bikers get a chance at some of these (at these prices) but I doubt it

I've heard good and bad of Lidl & Aldi stuff. I have some Aldi cycling shirts and, for the price, I can't really complain. They're certainly well made when I was expecting them to fall apart on me. I'm not sure I'd feel confident with helmets, back protectors, jackets or trou from them though. The other stuff might be worth a go.

As moose says, it ends up on e-bay at much inflated costs. All's fair in business I guess.

I've got couple of things from Lidl.

I can recommend:
-waterproof suit
-tankbag (magnetic

)
-thermal/membrane underwear
-sweets

Don't buy those:
-motorcycle cover (disintegrates in the sun - I mean it!)
-shoes (stink! I can hear the jokes already

)
-jacket/trousers (sizing strange - too short and too wide - may fit less athletic ones

)

Wifey is visiting the nearest town with a Lidl in it tomorrow and i am looking at getting some cordura trousers for touring.Previously i purchased a portable chemical toilet for the boat and some sailing gear which have been very good.

If you shop cannily you can pick up some decent gear.

has anyone had a look in store? what are the trousers and jacket like? looking to replace my stuff for a year, worth a trip down? bit strapped after me service and i gotta get new rear tyre!! why does it allways come at once

I do almost all of my grocery shopping at Lidl thank you very much. Saves a bloody fortune over Tesco's and they sell reall real German beer as well

As for the other stuff they sell, you've just got to be sensible. Like a few people have said, if you want to buy a lid that's just been slung in a basket in the middle of a supermarket no0t to mention it's journey there, then as far as I'm concerned the damage has already been done and you've got nothing worth protecting anyway.

As far as the riding kit goes I did have a good look at the trousers and they looked pretty good (trademarked cordura for a start), especially at that price and I only want a set for occasional use, not to commute half way accross the country in all weathers.

I'm sure Kwackers will back me up here as well about German tools, I am still using tools that I picked up from the bargain bin in Aldis/ Lidls / Martkauff for a couple of Euros, some of them over 4 years of hard use ago.

I found some of my best, hardest used and most loved screwdrivers were from the bargain bins of German shops. There are some crackingly good bits and bobs to be had out there. I kinda miss shopping in Marktkauf and the others. Shopping in supermarkets in Germany was never a chore (apart from in the NAAFI) always something worth 'playing with' on the shelves in the 'bloke sections'.

Tescos just isnt the same..

Totally agree, that's why I like shopping in Lidl's - send the wifey off to get spuds and chicken and the like while me and the little guy go round looking at 'stuff' and 'things'.

Tesco's don't sell wobbly either
