Sounds like you've been had :smt012 When Griff last came down here to do our bikes mine was due a big service, which included balancing the throttle bodies, and it cost me less than half what you were charged.

Most I've ever been quoted by a main dealer for a full (ie valve check) service was £350 all in.
Didn't pay that - went to an independent place that knows Aprilias.
Non valve check services I do myself - next valve check one will go to Griff because I can't be bothered with the hassle of doing that .

The price you have been charged is staggering - how does it compare with what they quoted for the job?

Oh, and of what exactly did the fuel injection set-up comprise? I'd want to know what they've done to cost that much?
If you've a PCIII on there and they've done a full dyno set up then it's a good price.
If they've just checked/set your TPS, balanced your TBs and adjusted your trim pots, it's a complete rip-off.

everyone is right, i was quoted £350 for a full service, so 650 seems like an absolute rip off.

tight bolts? last time i checked each bolt is torqued up in the factory and should be retorqued when going back into the bike.

here is how long it took me to sort my bike out, actual labour time not waiting for parts time lol.

Spark plug change - 30 mins
oil filter change - 2 mins
oil change - 10 mins max.
brake fluid change - 1.5 hours max front and back, and thats if they changed the lines too!

FI set up - this would have been done presumably after they had the airbox off for the spark plugs - so probably just a few minutes setting that up correctly!

i would also be checking to make sure they had done the job properly - those front spark plugs are a pain to get to, get the caps off and make sure the spark plug is new, if it isnt you have another strong point to add to your case - incorrect servicing etc.

scottoiler setup - whats to set up? just find somewhere to mount it, whack the pipes down and find something to vacuum from. simple.

bollocks to that

write to them - and send it recorded delivery and a copy to Aprilia UK

you call them they will soft soap you - write to them and i reckon you will get a result

records of phone calls can get lost, recorded delivery letters cannot be lost

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

apart from a sticky for recomended service centre's, perhaps we should have one for dealers to avoid.

Might be worth having a word with Trading Standards, when you've got more 'evidence', e.g. quotes from other main dealers??

what do you lot think?
Ok, 650 is steep, however if you calculate the above list at dealer prices the cost of the service would work out to something like 400-450 pounds.
Not that bad if you ask me, especially when my local dealer quoted me 650 for the major service alone! :smt103

They also fitted some crash bungs for me (the lower ones) though i bought them elsewhere so that counts for 15 mins or so I suppose..

Put another 130 odd miles on the bike today and its running really well, man i love this bike :D

Unless I've missed something obvious, it took me way more than that to fit the bungs...

Hmm this could be the source of the seeming overcharge although I would have thought it would be listed separately and with a disclaimer on items fitted that arent from the Garage's own stock. :smt017

Glad your bike is running well. A well fettled bike running on song is a glorious thing. :smt003 :smt003

Mine just went through it's major service at Griff's place, £311 that included an upgraded clutch jet and a replacement engine bolt.
