Just weighed my OZ wheels on my crap Ikea scales. Both with Dunlop Sportmax GP tyres and no disks. Front is 8kg and rear is 13kg.. The figures quoted for these wheels on the thread pulled up by D-Rider are 3.4kg and 5kg. Does this include bearings? That means the tyres + air may weigh up to 4.6kg front and 8kg rear. This seemed too much, so I just weighed a 110/80 17 BT45 off my CB500 and it weighed 4.5kg. It therefore looks like tyres weigh more than OZ wheels and the standard Brembo wheels. Hence, we may want to buy lighter tyres. I'll have a look on Visordown to see if someone will weigh their tyres for me.

Unless you're racing professionally why bother with the lightest possible tyres? They're lighter because they're thinner, so will wear out faster, be less comfortable over bumps and puncture more easily. Lighter is alright to a point, but then you start to loose much more practicality in other ways. Save sprung weight with lighter wheels, brake componants, suspension bits and sprockets, but in the real world you'll be better off with heavier road tyres that will last more than 2000 miles or give up and deflate at the first big pothole.

Yes, I agree there are many factors affecting tyre choice. My point is tyre weight is significant and might be different between manufacturers and they don't tell us.

I think there is more difference between the Brembos and 'proper' OZs than you are finding. I weighed mine when swapping from Brembo to OZ.

OZ F/R 9kg/12kg
Brembo 12kg/15kg

Basically there was getting on for a 30% difference between the wheels, and the difference on the bike was certainly night and day.

Are you sure you didn't weigh them in pounds rather than Kg ?

Hehe, can't remember - but I do remember it was around a third lighter for the OZs! Pretty sure my original thread on this is lying around somewhere...

From my original thread I said:

I weighed them before I put them on, the difference is huge - standard weights with tyres are 16kg/12kg and these are 12kg/8kg - 4kg's per wheel weight saving. And man does it show on the bike! Feels quicker to accelerate, decelerate, change direction, such a difference. I wasn't sure if I'd notice but its such a transformation!

So unless I got the units mixed up back then...

I think we're getting a bit confused. I got 8 and 13kgs for my OZ wheels + tyres on crappy scales, so that sounds similar as D-Rider's OZ wheels. I haven't weighed my Brembo wheels yet as they are still on the bike.

Yes and similar to my wheels.

When you weigh your Brembos you will find they are around 4kg/wheel heavier. The bike will feel transformed after you ride it.

I think tyres will all roughly be the same as makes no difference weightwise, when compared to the weight saving of the wheels.

I think the confusion has arisen because you said:
ReggieGasket wrote:Yes, I saw that last year, thanks D-Rider. I think I have the light Mille R wheels from around 2001, but I'm not 100% sure. Assuming I have, it looks like the difference in weight between the OZ wheels and standard is 800 grams on the front and 1500 grams on the rear (2300 grams in total). That's not a big difference, but well worth having.
So it appears you have weighed your Brembos and already compared them - but now you say you haven't?

Yes, I took those weights from the link, but they must be different Brembo wheels to the standard ones. Glad to see I didn't waste my money when I bought the OZ wheels! Having said that, I really couldn't feel much difference when carrying the two types of wheels + tyres. Am swapping wheels later this week.
