Firstly, many thanks to everyone for your best wishes and sympathies - really appreciated .... well some of them were!
Now Kiwi hoping the Falco had been trashed

- shame on you .... even if the improvement of your own is a worthy cause.

Just also to clear up, the bike doesn't belong to my boy whose birthday was yesterday (he's got an Aprilia scooter) - it belongs to my eldest .... and, Fausto, it does still need the MOT but more urgently now.

As for Ian sending your good wishes - well that means a hell of a lot mate - cheers.

Dominic .... you are so right how irritating it is .... the thought process in getting in and out of chairs are enough - moving in an out of bed requires a PhD to figure out.

Anyway, as you might have guessed, I'm home .... but won't be out on the bike today .... or the next ...... or the next .....

but, thank goodness it wasn't on the Falco!

Not been a great week from a motor vehicle point of view .... Last Sunday took Ben (middle son) for his first drive in the Mrs car .... he hit a kerb and I had to replace a tyre. The next day Joe (youngest son whose already passed his driving test) stopped the wife's car with the aid of a lamp post. He wasn't going fast so damage is bonnet bumper and light - I was supposed to be fixing that this weekend.

So .... my little off on Daniel's 125 ...... This is the story as I recall it:
I was taking it to the place I go for its MOT.
About a mile from home, there was a queue up to roadworks.
I was going along the outside at a sensible speed (.... it's a 34yr old Honda 125 .... on an upwards incline - and I was taking it steady)
A car was waiting to turn right out of a side road, pulled out into the turn "refuge" area and slowed as if he was stopping .... which would have been expected as he was joining a queue. It also appeared to me that he had seen me.
Unfortunately for me at about the time I was starting to pass a car in the queue, the car I was passing waited for the car that was pulling out and rather than stopping he pulled on into the gap that had now opened. I was not going fast but there was no real chance of stopping - and I was also under the impression that I'd been seen and he would stop.
All I could do was swerve to avoid a T-bone and hope to miss him. As it was, he didn't slow and it resulted in a side-swipe.
Megga Tank Slapper ... hoped I might save it but no chance.
After that it's a bit of a blur but I think I high-sided and landed on my shoulder and head.
Winded and couldn't breathe for a bit but recovered and was thinking about getting the bike home and fixing it up and getting the MOT ....
Bystanders had summoned an ambulance (I told them no need .... so clearly what do I know).
Anyway, they checked my spine etc (that was the ambulance crew - not the bystanders)
Police turned up and did a few checks and got the details of the guy that hit me. He admitted he hadn't seen me.
They gave me a producer for my insurance .... which is all in order as long as I can remember where I put the certificate ...
They also looked after the bike keys 'till Daniel (eldest son) turned up to push his bike home.

By that time I was off in the Ambulance to A&E .... and the waiting ....

Anyway once I got seen, I was X-rayed which revealed "at least 4 broken ribs". They sent me for a CT scan too as they were a bit concerned that it was upper ribs that were broken in the vicinity of veins and other internal bits. CT scan showed no major damage - just a bruised lung.

Night was a bit uncomfortable but they've let me home today.
Apparently I'll be suffering for a couple of months .... and at the risk of sounding like a big wuss ..... it does hurt a bit (understatement mode).

Now, as you've heard, while I was there I found that Sky are filming a series called The Real A&E which starts next weekend. Your own D-Rider will be appearing later in the series .... can't guarantee I'll be looking my best though .... will they re-edit with a stunt double as MCN did a while back

Ooh, nasty. Broken ribs are crap, all you can do is wait and try not to move too much. Coughing, sneezing, laughing, all hurt

Hope you are suitable compensated and mend quick.

Although you seem to be getting some good coverage lately!
P.S. Did you check if there were any CCTV cameras in the area, might be able to get some footage from them.
Seriously the main thing is that you just get better quickly, hope you're not in too much pain, Pete will tell you the best painkillers to try!
Hope you get everything sorted quickly and you're back on a bike again soon. Sleep will be awkward for a little while, that was my problem a couple of years ago. I just wanted to lay in bed and sleep, but could not find a comfortable position where it didn't hurt.

Kept in hospital for broken ribs! Oh well, I spose bloke's broken ribs are worse than female's - when I broke some ribs the Dr said "It'll be worse before it's better, and it'll take about 3 weeks to start feeling better" - and that was it! He was right too.

Seriously tho, sorry to hear about the off and the ribs - as for sleeping, I found the best way was a heap of pillows and sleep half sitting up. And whatever you do, don't cough, sneeze or laugh! Or lift anything heavier than a pint......

Ah - but BG, you forget I'm a celeb now .... or will be when the program is aired to both of the sky viewers who will be watching.

We celebs get preferential treatment.

Thanks for the sleeping advice - the mrs has made me a bed up on the sofabed downstairs .... think that's more to do with her getting a good night's sleep though!

Glad to hear that you're (relatively) OK. I'm surprised that the hospital sent you home so early - didn't they want to keep you in for a few days for "observation"?

Don't want to worry you, but I've "only" dislocated 2 ribs on myslef in October and I can still feel it :( On a brighter note it feels way better, almost gone :).

Isn't it bad enough he's going to be on this 'Real A&E' program? Last thing we need is for him to be on 'Road Wars' as well

Saw this news on the AF1 forum; must have missed it here because I only ever look at the Falco chitchat. Really sorry to hear about your mishap, DR but glad that it's not any worse. I'm sure you'll enjoy all the pampering that Mrs DR will bestow on you, and like most of us men, be a model patient. I wish you a speedy recovery; no doubt your posting rate will increase as you stave off the boredom that is daytime TV! Bit of a media magnet are you not?
