I think the plan is that engines become standardised by the crazy "buy your competitors engine for €20,000" rule while unrestricted rules on chassis development is what will keep the class as a prototype class.

If you think how much money that is thrown after each extra HP or part thereof in engine development you can see how this will keep costs down. Teams wont be willing to spend a fortune on developing an engine that a competitor could get for pocket money afterwards but they will still be motivated to spend money on chassis developement which is the cheaper of the two areas.

Sorry dont agree that chassis development is the cheaper of the 2, you only have to look at car development to realise its the biggest share, no point sticking a brilliant engine in a shit chassis, it'll only confirm that the developers have only got themselves to blame.

I'd like to see a rev limited, bhp limited, cc limited, weight limited bike, that purely relies on ability to keep it shiny side up.

If they did that and said here is your budget like it or piss off, then we'd get some damn good races.

BTW its dead easy to stop the black economy in racing so the likes of Ducati can't cheat, its called open inspection.

One decision I have to make this season is whether to watch MotoGP on the Beeb. I can't bear to listen to those idiots droning on. Eurosport was entertaining and we had informed comment with a bit of fun. Perhaps WSB might be a preferred option.... (I'll probably watch GP with the sound turned down!)

I think that wsb is going to be more entertaining to watch this year anyway

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Eurosport is crap IMO, especially that twat that sounded like Lloyd Grossman and didn't know when to shut up talking. In fact he never stopped from beginning to end of every race.

I watch it on TV for the racing, not the commentary.

With just 17 MotoGP bikes (at the moment) on the grid the question is....is it going to be worth watching at all in 09? Will the 250's & the 125's be covered?? I doubt it. Add in the Beeb drivel and a recipe for a mass turn off is on the cards.

Sorry Gio but Eurosport was (and is) brilliant with educated and experienced commentators, ex racers always on hand and superb overall coverage. Do you think the Beeb would ever get Rossi to join the commentry team covering the 125 & 250 races? Not in a million years, but Eurosport had it happen just last year.

The racers loved Eurosport because Europsort understood their sport. Dorna will rue the day they took the rights away from them.

WSB is where it's at this year and probably for the next 3 yrs , close racing and no obviously dominant force will mean for the first time in a while there isn't a clear favorite for the title. Personally I hope either Biaggi or Nakano do well (can't think why though, lol) but deep, deep down I'll always be routing for HAGA!

Totally agree with all of that Rich.
Has there been any more news about Eurosport getting some sort of coverage after all?

Dornas decision to take the rights away from Eurosport is based upon their new policy of only letting "free to view" stations have access to the MotoGp coverage.

Obviously Dorna have no understanding (or selective vision) that here in the UK we have to pay £139.50 a year to have the priviledge of watching the Beeb, so how that is classed as "free to view" beats me.

My understanding is that there were "rumours" that Eurosport may get to air the GP coverage but not live! If this is the case (i hope it is) the term "spoiler" on many threads will really mean something (lol)

On a slightly different note I see that Donington have now gained planning permission to alter the circuit for the F1 circus to come to town. Lets hope it becomes a great bike circuit as well eh? "Portimao 2" maybe, but proably without the sun

My daughter lives in Donington and she see's the F1 fest as being a time to make money. The feeling in the village is that that twat Ecclestone (the dwarf) is only going to use the circuit for a couple of years so he can leverage other circuits (like Silverstone) to improve their facilities. As you say, should give the bikes better facilities though (but probably a crap circuit to ride). I've only done a track day once at Donington, and in the wet, but what a track!

That's a surprise.
MotoGP, F1, All change ?
Sounds more like Magic Roundabout to me.
The way these two are going at the moment you will be soon be able to fit their grids on a fairground roundabout.
What fun that would be, Rossi and Stoner et al could hang right off on the long (VERY) left handers and nick candy floss of the kids watching.
:smt003
Then again the F1 lot would still be the same, just going round and round in procession.

Oh great!

So the British public loose the best TV coverage and then we loose one of the best racing circuits in the world for that horrible, windswept boring expanse that is silverstone.

So much for the promise that Moto GP would be retained at Donnington following the move of F1.

Yet more nails in the MotoGP coffin at least here in UK ... smaller grids, useless TV coverage, boring circuit, comedy class to replace 250s.

Vale, time to get out and join the more exciting WSB circuit - or your rallying dreams (though I hope not 4 wheels)
