opps, maybe I should have checked my previous posts. But the pictures seem to have disappeared :smt017

Anyway, hit my first problem. My universal paddock stand is not as universal as I thought. It currently uses cups which sit under both sides of the swinging arm to lift the bike up. No prizes though to anyone who points out that you can't do this on a Falco due to the hoses that are fixed to the underside of the right swinging arm :smt012

Off to search for bobbins and stuff now. I'm guessing that the threaded holes next to the chain adjusters on both sides of the swinger are for bobbins.

Still, opened the shed door and got the bike cover off without any problems :smt003

The luggage hooks under the rear seat can be used as bobbins. Just unscrew em and put them in the swingarm. You'll still need hooks on yr paddock stand ideally but you might get away with using the cups as a temporary measure? :smt001

are the luggage hooks designed for that, or is it coincidence?

As promised, pics of the connector. Found on the left side, just above the frame spars

Image

The connector block is directly wired to the switch. I cut the cable by the connector (left an inch or two), then spliced/soldered the two outside wires together, then traced the remaining wire and switch down the side of the bike to remove it.

Image

The switch is two-way - one cable is the earth/common/neutral, the middle one completes the circuit to the light on the dash, the third one completes the circuit to the "keep the engine running when in gear" circuit. Ie, if the switch is in one position you get a light but the engine cuts out when in gear, in the other position you get no light and the engine keeps running when in gear - this is what you're doing when splicing the wires - making that circuit.

you can use the honda cutout switch, or drill a small hole and reuse aprilia one.
20 mins total.
Did you use the honda switch? If so did it work OK?
I have fitted the VTR stand & swtich, Light comes on when down & off when up
but the engine doesn't cut out when I put it in gear (with stand down & light on) :smt017
Strangely thought the prilla switch was broken (plastic one) the dash light has never worked (I thought bulb had gone) but the engine cut out when stand down :smt102

I used the original switch, as stand didnt come with one.
The lug was broken on the aprilia switch, but had enough left for it to work.
I`m gonna do the bridging trick, so I have the light only as I don`t like the cutout being a possible fail on a ride out.

Excellent, thanks for that. Looks like I've gotta get the tank off as well. Any siimple instructions for thst?

So, on your bike do you still have the complete connector in place with the wires cut just after it on the switch side?

update

#27 Post by gazuk » Sun Feb 04, 2007 8:13 pm

so, what I have done so far:

Got paddock stand with hooks not cups
Removed luggage thingies from underneath the pillion seat and used these as bobbins
Removed old stand including spring
Fitted gsxr stand and spring but with the Falco bolt.
Left the switch dangling for the moment, so I could just see the improvement with the lovely new stronger version
Jumped around cursing for a few minutes
.....cos the angle of lean is JUST AS BAD, if not worse :smt013 :smt013 :smt013
Ok, so it's a stronger stand and will probably not sink into warm tarmac, but the bloody bike is still near veritical (I will post a picture soon). A stong sneeze and it will topple over. It looks like its the extra length of the gixer stand that is cousing the pronblem.

Is this normal with the gixer stand mod, or have I got a stand of a different model. I am still running the standard shock, so is this the problem?

I'm going to pop out now to see if I can get a picture (and to make sure it hasn't fallen over :smt012 )

Now you have a perfect excuse to get a proper rear shock. :smt003

I mean one with height adjustment.

That does look very vertical Gazuk.

Although I fitted my GSX-R stand with my Ohlins in place, I'm currently back on the old Blue-Spring nonsense (still haven't sorted out some new linkage triangles from when they got bent up when one of the bolts came out :smt053 )
Anyway, even with the standard shock, mine seems to to be nice and stable - in a way it never was with the original stand.

From what I can make out, it does seem to be the same stand as mine.
