Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I'd happily recommend the Picos Mountains in Northen Spain. A doddle to get to (Plymouth or Portsmouth - Santander) great roads, great scenery, The locals are fab and very biker friendly and the weather was superb.
This is the lake at Riano (the roads that go around this lake are unbelievable........you will destroy your knee sliders here, guaranteed!!)

This is the "T" in touring mode

And just because not every trip is perfect. Here's my mates 1098, 1/4 ton of building sand just after a blind bend on a Spanish mountain road = this! He wasn't hurt (apart from his pride of course) but we haven't seen the repair bill yet

Happy Days

leaving aside Noale, but chatting to a friend:

Early doors start, Calais to Metz or Starsburg

Then Next day on to Salzburg in Austria - should be some twisties there I would think.... then play around the dalmatian coast or the alps or noale or what ever - then come back up in stages through france

Looking on the map it looks like it could be entertaining their - mountains, lakes, twisties and some decent Vino :)

From the AF1 forum, Olivier/go modem go posted:
In the Alps / low montains?

If you want to have time for your lunch, a few photos, and a few roadside ciggie stops, and NOT want to start at 7AM with a rushed breakfast:

Maximum 300km / day in low mountain areas on B-Roads, and max. 250km in Alpine regions if a high pass, or small valley riding in Switzerland is involved.

That makes riding much more relaxed. You can still floor it of you want, and take extra loops up a serpentine in the afternoon, but with nsuch a goal there is no time pressure to reach a certain destination.

Don't give me the "a hard biker does +500mls / day" argument. I don't care - having done 1000km/ day before, it's just no fun at all at the end of it...

I have much more fun setting 250km / day max. touring goals - and I'm also lucky not having those long & boring ferry & motorway transfer times to get to the good riding bits in Europe

120mls / 200kms in the twistiest sections means about 4hrs solid riding. You won't average more than 50km/h average on the most scenic routes getting you above 2000m/4000ft.

Flippin heck. Not been on here for some time.

The Yellowduck is going to Assen around this time, but will look into the logistics of coming back home 'the longway round' :smt001
They call it mellow yellow.

A fairly comprehensive list there Pete.

One thing I note is missing for Spain - a spare pair of spectacles if you happen to wear them (yep the ones on your nose aren't enough - you have to be able to show you have a spare set on you)

nooj has suggested another thought

https://www.ridersite.com/viewtopic.php?t=4190

that is right down towards the south of france - so most likely warmer!

I really am easy as to where i end up - i cannot change the dates, but the venue is cool :) - ie where ever - I just want to go !

I love touring on the continent. The Dordogne/Lot is my favourite area of France. Lots to see and do and some fantastic roads.

June last year my wife and I and some friends went to Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, back to Germany, France, back to Holland. We used Hull- Rotterdam ferry which is useful for Northern living peeps. We covered around 2,700 miles over two weeks which involved some 400-600 mile days and some days where we didnt touch the bikes (mainly to give arses a rest!!)

As a result of this trip I wouldnt recommend Poland on such a short trip as you have to go fairly deep in to reach anything worth seeing and to be honest the standard of driving is downright dangerous and road quality extremely poor. Czech was OK but no real main roads so progress was slow, around 240 miles a day and totally frazzled at the end of the day.

For France I tend to use the Portsmouth- Le Havre ferry (if its still running) to head into the SW region. Its a night ferry so you can leave work, jump on your bike, get on ferry and have beer then wake up next morning in France ready to start your holiday so no real time wasted travelling!

Just remember France is closed on Sundays, get petrol on Saturday, I learned from experience, luckily at the time I had a BMW GSA so 33 litre tank was useful!!

Depending on work (ie havin work!!) I'd like to come, however may be in Belgium/Holland at the beginning of June so not sure the wife would let me go twice :smt022
