Nah - keep posting them up - they're not that different to the commute home that awaits me before long .... apart from the bland, featureless urban landscape of Coventry, the incessant rain and the fact that the sun set hours ago ...... but, hey, I don't care as the important thing is I'LL BE ON MY FALCO
:smt004 :smt041

..... see, I said it was almost the same .... :smt003

Consider it done. If I post pics again, I'll make them in the form of a Link with a notation
advising you of the potential mental health risk :smt006

I've just returned from road testing the pannier racks for a couple of hours with smaller E21 ( 21 litre) panniers plus E360 ( 40 litre) top box.
I loaded the bags to near full capacity . This smaller setup looks much better in my opinion and the mirrors are way more effective
than with larger E360 / E460 panniers blocking the rear view. Top loading panniers are so much easier to load / unload.

The panniers are 34" wide when attached to the bike vs 36" for stock Triumph Sprint panniers though they are about the same capacity.

Pics are taken at the house and not along the forest roads .... by popular demand :smt003 The bike's performance was excellent in spite of the load.
The Falco is oh so much fun in the twisties !

System testing is hard work.... but someone has to do it :smt004

Thats a really nice job done there :smt023

As an aside, I've got some Ortlieb soft motorbike panniers, very well made and totally waterproof (with trademark roll top) so you don't need to bugger about with covers.
If you don't like it, don't look!

Thanks. Do you have any pics of the "roll-top" you mentioned ?

I rode about 200 miles today with only the Givi E 21 panniers... No problems.

I've replaced the pillion and top box plate with the cowl for when a top box isn't required. I normally
use only a top box for light duty but the small , efficient, top loading Givi E21's will serve that function well on the Falco.
Plus, they look pretty good... as panniers go :smt001

E21 Panniers ( 21 litre) with cowl and no top box plate. Note the new aluminum strap location. It attaches
via the two machine screws that secure the lock. I've added a small shock cord ( out of sight) from the cowl to
the aluminum strap to add redundancy to the single pin lock on the cowl. I just don't trust the OEM setup.

Givi E460 Panniers ( 46 litre) with pillion and top box plate. Sans the top box, the pillion / top plate have looks only a mother could love.

Very nice neat job, I may have to steal your idea.
Any ideas how much the racks weigh?
I have a set of racks a bandit and each rack comes in at 1.2 Kg

The homebuilt pannier racks install and remove as a single unit weighing 2.5Kg (5.5lbs). Everything still needs to be painted black.
The separate Givi alloy top box plate ( for a KLR 650) weighs 1.4Kg (3 lbs) . This could just as easily be made from HDPE. If none is
available in 1/2" sheet form, an HDPE kitchen cutting board can be used.... Lots cheaper and lighter weight than a Givi, and just as strong :smt001
SW-Motech ( for Givi) attachments cost $10.00US per pannier...... Tom

My original idea of using cable ties and shock cord top box attachments now looks rather primative compared to the pannier rack setup.
I've decided to go full circle and upgrade the free standing top box to include bolts and aluminum strap attachments.
This arrangement allows removal of the pannier racks while keeping the top box in place. The pillion can still be removed independent
of the top box rack therby gaining access to the grab handle bolts / lock nuts when removing or installing the pannier racks.... Tom

I've drilled the grab handles and attached the back of the Givi plate with machine screws / locking nuts. The aluminum forms a triangle
along with the grab handles which holds down the front of the plate so no drilling of the pillion is required. Still needs to be painted.

I finally got around to painting the pannier racks with Krylon Fusion (flat black). Krylon is the only paint I know of
that will stick to HDPE... most of the time anyway :smt002 I sanded the white plastic with a 220 grit sanding pad to
rough up the surface first. Next time I'll use some black HDPE instead.

That white stuff is snow with temps dipping below -18C ( 0 F) this weekend. And you Brits think you've got it so bad :smt003

But no worries... I'm sure I'll find something to do
