Many years ago I used to ride through the Magiliesberg mountains in South Africa in the early mornings. The roads were long sweeping bends where 3 figure + speeds were easily and regulary attained. One winter morning coming around just one of these bends and just one of these speeds I found the way ahead to be covered in pigeons enjoying the sun-warmed road.
I had no option but to keep the course and shave off what speed I could.. but the poor buggers only just managed to take off before I ploughed through them. I felt, and my mate behind said I had 2 or 3 bounce off the top of my helmet and another 4 or 5 bounce off the screen and fairings. Lucky all were glancing blows and my bike was fine except for a few feather and smudge marks.

Back in the 80's when I rode a 350LC
I rode through Spain to Portugal to watch the Vila Real TT F1 Road races (absolutely fantastic event). On the way back through Spain I rode into a massive flock of birds that were wheeling and circling around the road. I was doing 80+ so couldn't really bang on the brakes (they were crap on the LC anyway), so just ducked down as much as I could, but still felt a number of impacts on my helmet.
When I stopped I found 4 or 5 deep gouges in the back of my helmet which looked to have been caused by sharp objects (bird beaks?). It was a very scary few moments for me, and probably for the birds too...

Right .....
Just been out for a quick ride and, would you believe it, as I hit 135mph this HUGE Albatros took off only 10metres on front of me .... just as it's mate was coming in to land.
Fortunately contact was only a glancing blow with each bird that sent them into mad spins before piling into a nearby lake. The Falco and I survived with minimal damage.
And I'm already working on the story about the day I rode into a flock of low-flying 747s should anybody come up with something more impressive than the albatross story

Did I tell you bout the stooping sparrowhawk on the way to Woolacombe? Headed straight for my eyes at 120 mph while I was headed straight for it at about the same speed.
We were filtering between two lanes of holiday traffic at the time so no chance of avoiding action even if there were time. Couldn't even brake with Nanasheen right behind me.
I banged my chin on the tank but still felt it skim my helmet. Nana reckoned there were feathers flew. I think there were about 8 or 9 of us in convoy at the time.

Back in the 70's a group of us were riding back from Cawthorne Park (Nr Barnsley) down a nice country lane when one of the lads shouted "Kestrel" and pointed directly upwards! all eyes followed his hand (natural reaction of course) and 2 seconds later two of the gang were riding straight through the drystone wall at the next bend and soon picking up bits of LC & RD from the field beyond.
Needless to say the lad who shouted bid a hasty retreat, it was quite a few years before the crashers could see the funny side of it
Not as good a the Albatross story but at least this is true...........honest!.........Andy, what do you mean you don't believe me?
