Ditto firestarter, although I left the bracket on the bike while trying to line up the holes. Pain in the arse

secret is too attach the spring, then to manouvre the parts... trust me - is a damn site easier.....

A tip for easy and painless removal/replacement of springs..........
Take one large zip tie.
Loop it through the hook at the end of the spring that you wish to remove.
Close zip tie to form a large loop.
Now pull gently on zip tie and hook of spring will easily pull away from it's lug.
Same in reverse to refit.
If necessary pad out zip tie with cloth for softer hands.

Used to do that when putting in the rear drum brakes on the car until the ziptie snapped and due to the position I had adopted I gave my self a healthy smack in the family jewels, couldn't sit up for 15 mins

Oh yes.
A few days after a particularly spectacular somersault off an XR400 in a rock field in Morocco.
Managed to get back on and ride to the end of the day, but couldn't even get on the bike in the morning.

Yep ... that unpaved escape-road excursion was certainly impressive!
