... if one was to do this little ride-her-dry experiment - say over a week of commuting with the reserve reserve in a can, would there be any issues with the efi when restarting the the thing? It's something F.K and I discussed briefly on Weds.

Well having run completely dry once, I would say that I've seen no issues .... once I'd pushed it to the garage and filled up again :smt053

Well, thought I'd update this with my experience of the bike going to LeMans.

Fuel light came on around 125-135 miles generally - cruising around a ton or thereabouts, very happy with the economy. I only went a maximum of 25 miles on the light once but it shows there's a decent amount left in.

However I rode it at the weekend and judged I could get home before I ran out of gas - which I did. But, the next time I started it, it ran for a minute and conked out so was just on empty.

I filled a 5 litre can from the garage and actually got about 6 litres into it at the pump. Rode to work today (20 miles) and no fuel light yet. Reckon I must have used at least 2 litres in that 20 miles so I'd estimate the light comes on at around 4 litres to go.

Only ever went onto reserve twice and stopped to fill up within about 5 miles, the gauge is useless as I only got 15 litres in each time.

Worst I ever got was 105 miles out of my Blackbird with a 21 litre tank.

Surely this proves that the gauge is accurate.

The light comes on when you have 4 litres left in the tank.

Perfect :smt020

Blackbird came on at 2.5 litres and that was enough for 40 miles if you didn't wring its neck. Reserve lights are a pain anyway, all bikes should have a reserve feed, I blame cheapskate manufacturers for that.
