But polishing? I though only tractor drivers did that? Are you meant to polish bikes? Doesn't it break them? :smt002
nowt to worry about really other than corrosion of the rear footrest hangers and the usual sorts of things ---- suspension etc. Good bike tho and when set up, handle really well. Worth keeping on top of the front calipers too as the 6 pots are prone to seizing if you don't keep an eye on em. Having said that, in the 15 months I had mine the brakes never stuck once in 17k miles.

TOLD YOU SO!!! :smt002 best way to prevent seizures and corrosion?

Out with the AutoGlym then, eh?

I can see the logic but, as a general rule of thumb, I work to the principle that if it gets too dirty, I buy another one :smt004

This is my imaginary world of winning the lottery of course!

No good - you've just got used to the excitement that comes with Italian bikes. So a Jap one that starts every time, works in the rain, doesnt drink fuel, has no quirks is bound to be a bit boring.

On an Aprillia forum you can always swop horror stories of the latest breakdown, the spares that never arrive, the sheer excitement of starting a journey and wondering if you will get to your destination. What can you talk about on a Jap bike forum?

Maybe what you need to do is to flog the Kwak, and buy a 1200GS. Read http://www.ukgser.com/forums/ to see what I mean.

Kwaks

Ok, got to admit, there's not as many quirks to a Jap bike (except for the Firestorm, which is full of the bloody things :smt011 ) but, and this is a biggy...

...it's an unbelievably good feeling to just put a bike on it's stand and walk away knowing only thieves and earthquakes will move it! :smt002

The whole GS thing on the other hand?

Got to admit, the three things that will make me instantly single are:

Shagging my mother-in-law (NOT going to happen :smt119 )

Buying a Harley :smt018

Buying a BMW :smt118

(I have a feeling that copping off with a 19 year old blonde might also do it but only the above three have been confirmed so I think there may be some wriggle room on this one)

I have a terrible attitude when it comes to being sensible and a lot of BM riders (not all of course) do like to condemn anyone they believe is acting outside of their own narrow boundaries.

Having said that, there was a great quote on the GS website

"So you like your new bike .

Brilliant

But why does that all of a sudden make everyone elses choice Sh1te???"

I reckon if we all went along with that philosophy, bikers would represent a much more politically powerful body?

except for scooters and Harleys, 'cos they ARE shite! :smt003

Well I liked my BM, its only failing was the shit seat on long trips, good job I didn't order it on the 9th Feb last year :smt005.
BTW I belonged to the official GS site but never posted, I agree they think the sun shines out their arses, with some peoples attitudes to other bike riders

I think somebody must be riding a different Aprilia from me!
I will have had my Falco for four years this summer and it's easily been the most reliable bike I've ever had, and I've had a lot of bikes since I started riding 40 odd years ago, including quite a few Hondas. I've still got one of the best built Hondas ever, a 1995 CBR1000F that I've had for nearly 6 years.
The only real failure in all the time I've had the Falco, has been the rear brake light switch, (probably cos O ride all year round and had not cleaned and looded it enough!). It's had the usual chains and pads etc. and I recently had to have the steering head bearings changed, but I think I may have helped wear them out. :smt003
It has always started first time other than when I failed to keep the battery well charged.
Think you may be mistaking the Aprilia for that other lot who make V twins in Italy :smt017 :smt017
As for spares, that's the only real downer, have always managed to get stuff in a resonable time from somewhere, but prices are bloody diabolical.
Most expensive plastics on the planet! So don't drop one. :smt018

:smt003

Reminds me of when our riding club - bikes old and new, large and small, but all in nice nick - was meeting up in a car park before a rideout. There was a lone BMW rider parked a little way from the rest of us so, being a friendly soul, I wandered over and asked if he was coming on our rideout.

He looked me up and down and said "I shouldn't think so".

:smt116

Turned out he was waiting for the IAM lot. Bet we had more fun than they did!
