Suffice it to say that it makes one very nostalgic for lost values.

That said I have to defer to Laz's expertise on whinging. :smt002

I knew he could put it better than I.

What was so great about the British Empire? :smt017

It (they) murdered, raped and pillaged around the world all in the name of Britishness, taking their so called civilised traditions to countries which they then claimed as their own and countries which didn't want anything to do with them in the first place (and still don't)

Clarkson is a TWAT! Always has been, always will be and this tirade just proved it.

England (note, not Britain) is despised world wide for many many reasons and deservedly so IMO. It believes it has a devine right to win every sporting event and to win every war and to force its belief system on every other country it believes is just not quite as civilised as it considers itself to be.

Ye reap what ye sow. Live with it!

And the fewer sporting events that England succeed at the better as the rest of the world sits back and chuckles.

Maybe People should recheck English, Great Britain, United Kingdom.

It's quite a substantial difference that often gets overlooked.

I quite like Clarkson as a character and I'm happy to hear some one speak their mind but I reckon that is a load of crap.

If you want to be proud of being British, English etc. then be some one to be proud of and don't rely on a bunch of overpaid professional sports men to represent you. As well as some great achievements our history like our sporting achievements, has some pretty dismal episodes. Like the British people it’s a complex bag of all sorts.

Tolerance, inventiveness, sportsmanship, fair play and resilience in adversity etc. are qualities to be proud of. That we got rich off the slave trade, subjugated continents and slaughtered with God on our side is in my opinion, not.

At least most Germans regret the cruelty of their recent past. I have little sympathy with those who seek to glory in ours and are disappointed because we don't win, when we don't deserve to.

Maybe when we can stop looking back to the ‘greatness’ of out past and thinking that we should be able to beat some one cause we are British and there for superior, maybe then we’ll compete, compete well and win or loose, be proud.

Agreed. Well put.

And as for sour grapes I'm afraid it's not. It's the truth.
