I'm not quite sure what you mean by this.
Have a read of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriotism, then it becomes obvious why, especially when you put it in the context of the media and foreign people who come to live here.

I don't think there are many patriotic people in this country either, certainly no politician is, seems everyone is out to grab what they can and sod the rest.

Erm, has anyone noticed the rise in the SNP, BNP, Plaid Cymru or UKIP? But Patriotism doesn't exist??!!

What about the "ex-Christian part of your comment?

Good points about the nationalist parties but in there seems to be a spread through from Patriotism to Racism.

I suppose that this whole thing lies in a broad spectrum that has its good and bad points and we all fit in somewhere.
At one end, maybe is Loyalty to those with whom you have an affinity (like bikers wherever they are from) through Patriotism right up to blatant Racial hate.

As for the article and any christianity reference - the main point made was that RCs owe a greater loyalty to the faith than the nation.
I think that has to be true for most branches of Christianity except for the state/church institutions such as the Anglicans.

Following this logic you'd have thought that Gio may have concluded that Patriotism may be stronger in a post-christian society (society may be post-christian ..... but we haven't gone away .....

Fairly straight forward. Go to any Anglican church any Sunday and you will see a poor attendance (in comparison with the general pop) and mainly one of old ladies. The catholics are a bit better but not a lot. Do you say your prayers at night, or just when you've misjudged a bend on your bike?

Patriotism? OK its a sweeping generalisation but how proud do you feel of your country? Do you fly a flag? Do you stand for the national anthem? Do you believe British is best? Or do you generally feel uninvolved, that the country is going to the dogs, that things are better done elsewhere? We have the highest percentage of the pop wanting to emigrate of anywhere in Europe. And one result of this lack of patriotism is that people resort to tribalism as in the SNP, Plaid Cymru , BNP etc.

Most people who know about life and can appreciate what the armed forces have done for their country aren't churchgoers,Kwackerz.

Most of the slimeball folk I have encountered in my life have had 'religious convictions',I wouldn't mourn their absence.

Any logical thinking person can understand the sacrifice for one's country, however you'll not usually find them in a place of organised religion.

You don't need the approval of such people,(though it would be nice)be content in the knowledge that you know what you did was right and true.

Christianity is not the only religion in the world and not the saviour of mankind. Many people are religious/spiritual and are compassionate to fellow human beings without being Christian hence my post earlier re. I'd rather people thought about others sacrifices for a few moments several times a year rather than when they were told to go to church. Going to church doesn't make society better. Re. me personally, yes I used to pray every night before I went to bed and slept with my bible under my pillow. I've realised the error of my ways and am now polytheistic.

And one result of this lack of patriotism is that people resort to tribalism as in the SNP, Plaid Cymru , BNP etc.I feel very proud of Britain and very sad at the way we are deteriorating hence I'm emmigrating. It doesn't make me less patriotic.
