Glad it's now sorted and running.

No worries about the old shock, I'm not doing much biking recently.
OK for as long as you need it.

As far as chain splitters go, I bought a cheap one some years ago, (not sure where from or where the hell it is at the moment!).
It did the job, but do remember that one of the pins broke.
Best option, as already mentioned, is to remove the link joint, either by grinding away the pin, or simply cutting through the link.
Obviously, after you have managed to obtain a new split link.
The cheap chain splitters do work, bought mine off eBay for about 50 quid, including delivery, can't remember who from. The problem is that it is so easy to break the pins when replacing the link on the bike. It is so easy for the whole clamping unit to get slightly out from 90 degrees, whilst you tighten up the unit with two spanners/sockets to re-rivet. The pin can soon break if this happens.
I broke one on my first attempt, but complained to the supplier and they sent me one new pin.
Did get the job done, but very wary the second time.

I have the same type that Spiderwheels has, it does work because it is a DID copy, it's a bit wanky because it's a copy.
You would also need a Vernier to measure a link and make sure you end up with the same width link after fitting.
Or buy an AFAM Easy Riv

Thanks again Howard.

I'm borrowing a tool to break and re rivet the tool, but won't have my hands on it until the weekend of the 24th (is that next weekend, or the weekend after? Thanks D-Rider for the weekend confusion....)

I have two new links ready to go (in case I mess the first one up!!) I also have a vernier gauge to measure the width of the pins matches.

I'll get the shock back to you as soon as possible when it's all replaced.

IS the AFAM any good then fatboy? they seem pretty cheap at £23...

Decided to take a gamble on the AFAM. Even if it only does one or two links it will have paid for itself.

It's worked every time I've used it - which is lots - and you don't need spanners or nuffink. Rivets the chain nicely too...

I don't own an Afam one, I think it is designed so you cannot over peen the pins on the soft link, hence the need to use a Vernier with other tools.
It was Wayno that first posted up about them and I looked around and read a write up from Bike Torque Racing, they use them in the workshop because they they are faster and easier to use than others and report them being good for about 5 chains

I got this job done comfprtably over the last 2 days. Replaced the swinger with the mille unit, regreased the dogbone bearings, and installed the Maxton shock. Also did the chain myself using the Afam.

Spent a copious amount of time cleaning parts up as well. Spent most of the time cleaning things!

All good though, The suspension feels sublime, I love the look of the mille swingarm, and finally got this job off my list!
