For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

On the road tax front, the bike costs me £85 but the 170 bhp diesel car only costs a tenner. That said, the fuel economy of the car is miles better than the bike and as that is a good indicator of emissions which sets the tax rates for cars, I guess that is the reason. There is no account taken of the fact that if 10% of motorists switched to bikes congestion would disappear .... they really should be promoting bikes by all means possible.
You get some bikes like an SV650 that cost the same to tax as the Falco and yet manage 65-70mpg without being too careful. No car should ever cost less to tax. But MPs don't ride bikes so that's that.

I had a lot of trouble sorting my insurance out this year. None of the comparison sites would give me a quote just because I have non-standard road cans and a non-standard shock.
Oh I wasn't arguing that the road tax situation is right - my point was that they use a different basis for cars and bikes and ignore the positive effect bikes have on the overall emissions situation (the basis for car tax rates).

As for insurance, yes I found years ago that as soon as you change more than a couple of things on a bike, comparison sites are hopeless. You have to use the phone.
I'm now go through Buckingham Insurance - those folks that Jay found - and they are always really helpful and (in the context of insurance brokers) a pleasure to talk with.

.... and no Geoff - the car's not a VW. It's a product of Stuttgart.

You have a Porsche Andy?

You have the roof rack for your Zimmer I assume

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
