winter preparations

I think the 'blanket wrap' may apply to those living further afield than Blighty, certainly not on my agenda.
I just hate the thought of winter trashing my bike so in adverse conditions its 4 wheels
On that note, rained all day so couldn't work on the bloody car, more chain lube washed down the gulleys and another coffin nail in the shock linkage bearings ect....
see my point?

Yep, winter ravages a good bike but I hate to miss a good day out when it's clear and dry albeit cold. I also agree that it's good to keep my limited skills honed. I make no apology for posting this again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkIM4_O5ilA[url]
Your thoughts on heated gloves make sense, Lazarus; thanks. I may well go ahead and fit grips and muffs.

Tis to me too, I always used to ride right through the winter apart from in snow or really bad ice - but there comes a point for some of us when the body says no; when it happens to you then you'll understand! It's this blanket "wrap it up and put it away at a certain date" that is anathema to me

The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

It is actually possible to recognise that your riding skills have gone a little rusty over a winter layoff and ride accordingly, of course.lazarus wrote:I dont ride through winter out of any " hard man" tendencies - that the last thing I would describe myself as. Its more about self preservation because the big time for bike accidents is march / april when the weekend warriors get their bikes out of hibernation. Unfamiliarity is the issue. So I use the bike for maybe 1000 miles between november and march. Keep up such skills as I have.mangocrazy wrote: I'm with you, brother. If I coat my riding skills in ACF50, can I prevent them from going rusty?mangocrazy wrote:It is actually possible to recognise that your riding skills have gone a little rusty over a winter layoff and ride accordingly, of course.lazarus wrote:I dont ride through winter out of any " hard man" tendencies - that the last thing I would describe myself as. Quite possibly - but then you'd have to compensate for the different coefficient of friction...D-Rider wrote:If I coat my riding skills in ACF50, can I prevent them from going rusty?mangocrazy wrote:It is actually possible to recognise that your riding skills have gone a little rusty over a winter layoff and ride accordingly, of course.lazarus wrote:I dont ride through winter out of any " hard man" tendencies - that the last thing I would describe myself as. Normally, I would urge caution, but given you're already a bit irritating to the eye you're probably fine....D-Rider wrote:If I coat my riding skills in ACF50, can I prevent them from going rusty?

Oh wait, sorry, it meant the ACF50 is irritating to the eye. My bad.

I may get a new woolly jumper seeing as he broke the last one

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
