bike...
Hi all,
Looks like my bike will be written off! After all the work I have done on it, more damage than I first thought. Friggin ignorant driver! Too all you legal guru's around. Even if they write it off, I still have title, so don't have to hand over my bike to anyone. Want to keep it and repair it. Will my insurance go nuts cause it will be a cat C or D? Again, another fi ancial loss due to inconsiderate driving

Yes, overall a financial loss but you'll probably come out of it OK as far as that goes as you usually get a reasonable sum for the damage and can buy the bike for a small sum.
I presume 3rd party is liable - if so, they should compensate you for loss of earnings.
Doesn't compensate you for all the hassle though!

At the end of the day Greg a bike can be replaced/repaired.
I know it is upsetting with what you have done to the bike modifying wise, but you are alive.
With your insurance money I would be tempted to buy another falco and start again, but keep your bike too for spares.
Early falco's are fetching 800-1200 quid on ebay. Just a thought for today.

Tolerance will be our undoing.
If it is Cat C that will not affect your insurance as it is only cosmetic damage, cost prohibitive to repair, Cat D is usually light structural, eg subframe/forks, with a report from an MOT place stating the repairs are up to scratch, should be no problem.
Best of luck, hope you can screw the twat involved

CAT D doesn't actually mean written off though does it - I thought it was just a category to show the level of repairs required?plasticpig72 wrote:fatboy you have that the wrong way round CAT D is cosmetic you do not need a report to get a CAT D repair back on the road. My last bike was written off as CAT D because the decals had been removed and the ignition barrel broken.

Write-off categories
Category A: scrap only. For cars so badly damaged, there are few or no salvageable parts. Should never re-appear on road.
Category B: body shell should be crushed. Signifies extensive damage, although some parts are salvageable. Should never re-appear on road.
Category C: the vehicle is repairable but the costs exceed the vehicle’s value. Can re-appear on road.
Category D: the vehicle is repairable but repair costs are significant compared to the vehicle value. Can re-appear on road.

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
