My brother is a fully qualified audiologist, this is what he told me years ago,..
If you cannot hear conversation over background noise you need hearing protection.
If it hurts, its damaging,
If its damaged, it cannot be repaired.
EAR PLUGS EVERY TIME !
Cleverly disguised as an adult !

I am totally deaf in my right ear. I am also frequency deaf in my left. I got measles when I was a child of 5 years of age. I still wear hearing protection.
I just think I hope that dumb fuck doctor who is responsible for the outbreak in wales due to his scaremongering many moons ago realises what shit he has caused. :smt013
Both my kids had the MMR jab. If I had had the jab then I wouldn't be in the state I am in. Rant over
On another note. I do work in heavy industry and it breaks my heart when I see people grinding away with a 9" grinder and not wearing hearing protection
I have even seen young apprentices not bothering with hearing protection. When you point out the consequences they look at you has if you have two heads or something.
Well I suppose when I was that age I knew everything.

I've never worn earplugs as I tried several different sorts and always found them uncomfortable and distracting.

I do suffer from slight tinnitus but that's fairly normal for someone of my age.
The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young.

Jay

NMR was not a available for our age group... I was hospitalised with measles when I was two...

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Me neither BG. They were unheard of* for most of the time that I have been riding so basically what's done is done.
I don't bother for my short commute but I mean to use them whenever I go on a long fast run .... but usually forget until I'm several miles down the road - and then it's too late to start hunting for them.

I wonder whether these people who insist on baffle-free renegades and ultra-loud air-boxes need them to be that way so they can actually hear what their bike is doing through their ear plugs ....

*pun not intended

Too true - when I was a kid you had measles, you had mumps, you had german measles - you felt very crap / feverish / itchy but got on with it and built your immunity.
In fact you wanted to get these things as a kid as they can be much worse later in life.

Things moved on and 20 yrs ago my kids were young and all had the MMR (despite the hysteria at the time).
Dunno if that was really any better than having the illness but probably easier for me to deal with as a parent than a parent having to manage each of their kids through each of these illnesses.

Always wear them these days but never did for the first 30 years of ridding. So with that, working next door to the press shop for a bit and a few rock concerts, the damage is probably done. At least my wife reckons I have a hearing problem.....
I bought a big box of soft green earplugs like in Marts link a while back and change them every couple of weeks for ones I washed earlier. I really don’t like riding without them ‘cause DESPITE BEING A BIT DEAF I DON’T LIKE NOISE....

I know the MMR was not available at that time pete. What I was saying I wish it was available at that time and I wouldn't have hearing loss to the extent I have.
Sorry if my post was a bit unclear. :smt002

And they might have a point. Having just fitted fuel exhausts i've been revelling in the sound the bike makes now as it's all been local use until tonight, plugs in....could not hear a thing :smt009 . Even riding through a tunnel was a bit of a let down! One thing i do find when i've got plugs in is that i tend to ride that bit quicker, lack of audio reference?

I always wear ear plugs, even though my hearing is only about 20% in my right ear and 30% in the left, I was born with defective hearing. I always carry 10-20 spare pairs as I use once mostly and throw away, after all a box of 200 pairs was only £20.
I hate it when people ask if you have a bathroom, I want to say "No we pee in the garden"
