Done!... I will hopefully have a shiny Falco in my garage very soon.

I have agreed to buy a lovely Bronze/Black specimen from a member. The bike has a few subtle mods and also comes with an original streetfighter kit (currently fitted) so the standard parts are boxed up.

I will be picking up the bike in the next few weeks and I'm hopefully going to get the bike back to standard fairing straight away and put the streetfighter kit up for sale...Not too sure how sort after the kits are but hopefully Ill be able to move it on swiftly!

I think I've seen the bike in question, the streetfighter bits are not really my thing. Except the high level exhausts, quite like those.

Twas me in Cambridge, Tom caught me by surprise as I hadn't intended to sell it, but needed an incentive to get my Laverda back on the road. ....... take away my one working bike & I will have to get it back together!

I very nearly changed my mind though..... but as the lads had driven all the way from Halifax.......! It's gone, now so I've got to get it together soon to guarantee another wet summer.

Anyone know anything about Ultrasonic cleaners as I've been looking on ebay, I have a 6L one in mind to fit one carb at a time. There's one outfit in Suffolk advertising the same unit under different names at 3 different prices (all the same vat no.).

I've decided that mechanical controls rather than the electronic ones for reliability & simplicity, anything likely to go wrong?

I bought one a while ago and have used it a couple of times. Haven't been brave enough to stick any carbs in yet, but that's the plan. I think mine is a 2 litre one, which should be just about big enough to fit a single carb in, dismantled. I've used mine to clean up various suspension parts (degreased first) and used citric acid to remove old zinc plating, so I can get the parts re-plated.

For carbs I'd buy the proper fluid - it''s advertised on eBay. I'd definitely get the fluid up to temperature before starting, as heat plays quite a part in effective cleaning. Once you're going the ultrasonic process generates heat of its own accord, I've found.

It's surprising just how well it removes crud and scale - I was pleasantly surprised.

Where do you get citric acid & what do you do to get rid of the old plating, does this work on the linkages etc on carbs & bits which look a bit cruddy with age or is it a different type of plating?

Sounds great as I've not been able to get the Laverda to run great on the standard exhaust (OK on a Jota one, which is basically an empty echo chamber) & think that cleaning the carbs out will get at all of the hidden jets/passages. I hear that carbs come out nice & shiny like new!

I was thinking a 2L one might be too small for a carb & end up with everything clanking together ? If the 2L one will do the job I might just have another look.

I get my citric acid off eBay. Buy at least a couple of kg, as you'll be amazed how much citric acid warm/hot water can absorb. It's quite amazing the way it shifts corrosion and manky old zinc plate from bolts and various metal parts.

I had some rusty metal suspension linkages off my VFR and some rusty bolts in odd sizes that only Honda supply (at a frightening price) and I dunked them all in the ultrasonic bath and was rewarded with clean, rust free plain metal parts and a pile of sludge in the bottom of the cleaner! After washing and drying the parts off I took them to a local platers and had them electroless nickel plated.

For cleaning carbs don't use citric acid - use something like this:

If you can afford it, I'd buy the biggest one you can afford. You'll find uses for it that you'd never imagined and the basket size on mine is a definite restriction.

Incidentally if anyone's looking at these, the same one is available for £259, £220 & £186, all from ebay, the last 2 are from the same company which is slightly strange!
