Have you tried unplugging them and sticking them in a different hole then turning the PC off and then back on?

XP sometimes gets the snarks with the whole USB thing and needs a prod to get the ducks lined back up.

Oh yes all the USB things have been tried in different sockets! Apart from the key board which has only had a couple of moments so I'm not messing with that!

I'd go with Pete's suggestion.

Sisoft Sandra to get the motherboard make and model.
Download and install drivers.

If that doesn't work you can bung in a new set of ports for 11 quid.

Startech 7 port pci usb card from Amazon.

I love the way you all think I understand gobbledegook! That's why I take it to the computer man - who, incidentally, could find nothing wrong!

So next time it plays up I shall just take it for a ride in the car! Maybe the moving about dislodged some dust or spiders webs etc!

Or maybe the printer is the problem - haven't plugged that in yet, I'm checking whether everything else works first - and it all appears to!

I guess he put this on a bench and tested it. I plugged things in and they worked - then pushed it back under the desk and they didn't.

And I can't get the speakers to work whatever I do - they were working before!

Ho hum, better find some more stuff to sell on Ebay - I think that new computer is going to be needed, this one is obviously just physically falling apart!

No there's nothing under the desk, I think it's just the actual moving of the computer - something's loose! (speakers are working now)

would arricept help?

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

If Arri Cept is her Latvian cleaner/gardener, I guess it depends whether such tasks are within his job description.
