Anyway, can we get back to helping me sort this phone out, please?
I'd advise getting a different phone, I did and it only needs recharging every 5-6 days
Well, Gio, it was free. Went in to the Orange shop to negotiate a better contract (mine was an old Raccoon plan - really poor value for money) - new one is £10 p.m. less, unlimited texts, 750 mb data, more realistic talk time for my needs - 200 mins, tho' I rarely go over 100.

However, I'd be grateful for suggestions for an alternative - you've obviously looked into this more deeply than I - I'll keep my eyes open for bargains.
Mine was free too, its a HTC one x, bit big and like all big phones the screens easy to break, so I paid £20 for a hard leather cover, touch wood its been great so far. on my £25 I get unlimited text, 900 mins a month and 3 gig download (use it for downloading music to my laptop) I also have but have never used Napster as its only free for 1 year.

But if you only needed a phone and they still made them I'd go for a Nokia 6310i, the best mobile phone in the world to date.

I'm told that the i-phone 4 is very good but the static electricity I seem to store in my body renders it useless to me, something to do with the arial!

Back in the dark ages I used to have a 6310 - ok for it's day but it doesn't do much.

Android is the way forward .... though the latest MS based Nokia is a bit cool (was with some Nokia people at a conference in Berlin earlier in the week and had a play with one during a bit of socialising time) .... too pricey though ....

Well it was only a phone not a computer as androids are!

Personally I don't think androids will last, they are just barely acceptable for any sort of use, to small, to thirsty for power, the apps are mostly crap cut downs of proper applications and the biggest worry is the health issues (admittedly its early days there).
What I think would be the best way is when we can harness the human electrical power to drive a telephone/computer device that we wear like a watch, a bit starwarish maybe but it will happen one day.

Completely disagree

Battery life isn't that bad - I charge mine every 2 or 3 days and the apps you use on the phone tend to be very different from those you use on a PC - though they can share info with each other.

Not fanciful at all - there's a lot of work going on in this area.

Wireless charging will be the next thing to make charging more convenient.

I have an S2 and i think it is a great phone. I have had it for almost 2 years. The battery life is a day or less if i use the apps or up to 3 days on standby.
It is the standard battery.

You can get an official bigger battery from samsung (i neve needed to) but it will not fit in a dock if you do get the battery. If you do decide to get a dock then i ONLY reccomend the samsung official dock... look it up...all other docks are flimsy...spend the little extra and get the quality.

As for cases i use a a flip case that opens from the top. don't get one that opens from the side because they are a pain in the arse when you are talking to someone.

Next thing is to get it updated.. Plug it into the computer and it will start to find 'KIES' This is the official program. Download it and then follow the on screen instructions. If it is not the latest version it will ask you if you want to update. Some things will change and you will need to get used to it again.

Finally. Find the task manager and put it on your home screen. This tells you what is running and you can choose to shut them down.

Theres loads of battery saver type apps on the app store but to be honest, most smart phones these days only last about a day if used frequently... I find the Samsung range lasts better than most others.
Just bought the galaxy note and it lasts really well. Had HTC windows phone previous and it didn't last as long...

My daughter Joanne has an S2 and loves it, she charges it each day but it never gets much of a rest!
She has nothing bad to say about it, just the opposite.
Terri and me both have the Galaxy Ace, free on a cheap contract with Tesco Mobile (O2), not as good as the S2, but fine by me for £12.50 p.m. and have had no problems, but do both charge most days. I don't see the problem with that, it does a lot so it needs charging.
I keep the USB charger in the car just in case I need it, rarely do.

You will like to know that it is not the apps that eat up the power(although they do play a part in it).
It is the screen that takes all the battery power. Look in the setting for battery and it will tell you what is consuming the most power.
My screen is currently on 62%.

I may have a dementia care bed Peter.....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
