My partner in crime at work has just bought a tiny Kia Rollerskate, 999cc and costs a piddling £30 a year to tax !

I think when buying any car now you have to take into consideration the road tax, I have just bought a renault laguna off my bosses wife which i can remember him buying for her.
It really is a nice car but its an 1800cc and the tax for 12 months when i have to tax it will be 250 quid.
My 206 estate has just sneaked up to 170 quid which is a 1100cc.

On another note colin who i work with has a 17 year old son who has passed his test and colin has helped him with insurance. Colin has also done all the work on the car for MOT and even taxed it for his lad....I think he is very lucky.
I had to laugh though has colin told me friday his son has done over a thousand miles in two weeks :smt042

I am taking everything into consideration, but mainly the insurance. :smt013

although it aint gonna be as bad as a lads insurance.
The kind of cars im looking at is...... Yaris,KA,saxo,206,corsa,matiz (in that order).
Found a great insurance company for females, diamond.co.uk ,for a yaris its under £700 (TPFT).(thats awesome compared to gocompare or that fecking meerkat one)lol.

So i just gotta get home so i can go looking at the cars i found on the tinterweb.

Well i can tell you what to look for when buying a 206.
Back bushes on the wishbones are the main issue. When test driving the car put your foot down and see if the car pulls slightly to one side, then take your foot off the excellerator and see if it pulls the other eway. Thats how to test them.
If you hear a clunking noise from the front end when going over bumps its one or both anti roll bar links
The radiator fans on the 1100cc bearings fail has they have a small motor, but a replacement can be found for 60 quid on ebay.No other peugeot model fits. Ask me how i know.
If you look at the rear of the vehicle from a distance and the car has excessive negative camber that is due to the bearings in the rear axle worn, peugeots have a trailing arm set up. It will not be the wheel bearings!
It is easier to change the rear axle, but this is not just the 206 all the peugeots they suffer the same fate at higher miles.
That said these are not bad cars i have had seven peugeots.
The saxo is the same demons has the above but it is same has the 106 peugeot in size and floor pan etc. Apart from the panels they are the same car!
I would not rule out a renault clio in your list too has they are good little cars.
The up side for the KA is they are cheap and cheerfull but back light bulbs are a bas*ard to change has the back bumper has to come off!!!!
Corsa,s are good little cars and spares are readily availabe and they are easy to work on. But having the choice i would have the yaris. Toyota reliability is second to none.
I have worked on all the above cars and i can say whole heartidly......The KA's back bulbs are really a Bas*ard. Really.. Really really really.
Tolerance will be our undoing.

I'd seriously consider the Yaris.
Well built, reliable, economical and not usually driven by boy racers, so might be good to insure.
(Saxo, Corsa and to some extent the 206 are all popular cars for the lads).

TBH any small compact car will not be easy to work on cos its erm small and compact :smt013
Iguess it comes down to price and availability, Ford,Vaux parts will always be cheaper than jap
If you go French then GSF are prob the cheapest parts you will find ( german, swedish. french )
Have to agree with HQ, yaris a top lil motor, lot less likely to have been thrashed by a testosterone fueled spotty git

That sounds pretty good all round, hope she enjoys it.

Years ago Terri had two old style Pandas and a Punto, which were all reliable and lasted well other than the early Panda which had a bit of rust.
Terri loved all three cos they were so easy to park, were very economical and always started well.

Yes they did!

We called it Punto, but it looked nothing like the parents, it was metalic green, (possibly from eating too much fresh bamboo.).
If I ate lots of fresh bamboo, it would turn me green.
