Re: Work/redundancy
TBH i have chilled out today and enjoyed work a lot more.lazarus wrote:Yes. And lots of experience of it too.blinkey501 wrote:
Any thoughts on the above anybody?
Problem is that companies have to announce changes and then consult on them and this takes time. Not only that but if you are re-organising across three different countries you cannot expect them to have worked out who does what down to the lowest levels of the company.
And it all takes way longer than anyone planning the deal in the first place thinks that it will. For example, until you have decided who the managers are, you cant decide who will be in their teams.
So your concerns and frustrations are typical. It's easy to spend endless wasted hours at work just talking about all the possibilities and achieving nothing but worrying more. Best advice is to forget the whole thing and just wait. Employers cannot avoid statutory redundancy payments and they cant force you into a lower paid job 100 miles away from where you now work.
I know this sounds selfish but i would imagine with having two lots of office staff they should be more worried than me

I realise there is a lot of organising and yes it is very frustrating waiting to see what is happening.

B/G I will be waiting to see what happens and not jump ship

Davshill. cheers dude, and i hope everything works out for you too

Fatboy... No i am not in a union although i know they are good at sorting things has i was in the GMB when working at the steel works and they assisted me.

Thankyou everybody for your words of encouragement i can't thank you enough

Glad you're feeling a bit brighter.
You have to remember all the recent announcements from number 10.
Unemployment is down, inflation was down in September, (convenient as this is the month pension increases are decided, so did anybody ever imagine they would say it had shot up to 10%, as it probably has!)
Strange how so many people on here seem to be in trouble.
Over 1500 people have left (lost) their jobs at Rotherham Council, (where I worked), over the last couple of years.
Actually officially, there were only about 282, all the others took options of redundancy or redundancy retirement like me.
Many of these "volunteered" after finding out that they were simply not "in the new structure".
Most were initially just told they were not in the structure and had to work out what that meant.
One boss in IT where I worked offered to take early retirement as she was told that might save the rest of her team. Then on Thursday 29th March, all the rest were told they were leaving the next day.
There was a whole office crying in each others arms (mostly female staff).
Another top IT boss was told there was no job for him and was given 10 mins or so to leave the building then escorted out.
Rotherham Hospital officially announced today that they are getting rid of 750 staff.
When we got back off holiday in October, my wife, who works for South Yorkshire P.T.E. was told they need to lose around 25% of staff in a restructure before Christmas.
They will all know early in January (happy new year!).
The best bit is that they have all been told to produce an analysis of what their jobs are, making particular mention of any impotant things that they do that nobody else may know about and the skill could be lost.
They need to know all thse areas in particular.
She started putting all the stuff together, and there were numerous areas where there is nobody else who could do certain important work that she does, (she is a one person Team).
She thought this was good and started detailing all this stuff until I pointed out that she was also giving them all the information they needed to get rid of here, after checking the important stuff and getting somebody else to take it on.
Her initial thought was that they wouldn't do that would they ?? Oh!
Seems that everybody at work is now getting either very secretive about what they do or trying to nick jobs off other people to help save their jobs.
We had that at Rotherhan for the last couple of years, a shit environment for everybody.
But don't worry our "David" reckons things are all getting better.
Hope for the one and only time he is right.

The government buget being cut by tens of millions three years on the trot turned them that way.
it was interesting listening to the bloke from the hospital say how he hoped to save money on his budget and use less staff by moving people out of hospital beds and using Care in the Community approach and Care Homes, sharing this work with other bodies like councils.
I hope the hospital doctors and nurses find that easy in their spare time, cos almost all the local Authority people around the country, who used to do it have gone down the road in the last few years and the care homes have gone private or closed and as Pete knows the private homes are now closing.
Never mind we will still have the latest Government initiative for old folks in hospital beds -
STARVE THE BASTARDS.
Sorry I meant to say an End of Life Care Path, or whatever.

What the feck is it with modern management? ?
Aladin, why cant your boss just say yes or no,sorry we wont be renewning your contract as some jumped up little degree graduate has worked out that they may save £100 per annum.
They are all desperate to make a name for themselves by 'quantitive easing'
One they they will all sack each other to reduce costs

Well Howard CHC funding is millions over spent- in Norfolk alone
And job wise my boss loves what I do - but hates that I will not be controlled by him - I manage MY staff and they perform for me.... And he knows that only I could turn a negative EBITDA into a positive 27+ thousand every month....

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...
Aladin, Im guessing you rely on the old fshioned methods.......
inter personel skills, respect and nurturing of team skills, keeping objectives realistic, remembering people are human not target figures, and refusing to use or respect the big stick that says YOU DO AS I SAY

Well the good news is, that after applying for a new position in the concrete side of the business I find myself very lucky to have got a job as a mobile fitter.
Unfortunately it has not settled well with certain people who I thought were good work colleagues and I have had to start wearing a stab proof vest.
Oh well.

Congratulations, blinkey! I've seen a couple of site closure situations myself and had my eyes opened by the different reactions of those involved. It's not unusual to see a side of individuals that you haven't seen before, both good and bad. But, as you say, you just have to turn the other cheek and take the opportunity that's best for your family. Best of luck with the new job!
