power commander- worth it?

A chip and airkit will work anywhere, any level, with the computer altering things to suit. East Anglia, fine, The Alps, fine
With a Power commander, it enforces it's own mapping, it controls the system to a point, so set up a PC in East Anglia at whatever place, great! Take it riding thru the Alps and it'll be most likely underpowered as the system cant fully adjust for it's surroundings.
That is partially the reason that different maps are applied at different circuits for racebikes, there are certain maps for tracks, sea level, etc is taken into consideration when they set it up.
It's a here and now performance addition, not a here and there addition. If you see what I mean!?
I'd not bother to be honest. As Sebestian said.. Isn't PCIII the only trick piece of crap missing on your bike..
Just anuvver view to mull over!

whereas you have to remap for the alps on a PC.. handy if you have a laptop and lead with you, no so if you dont.. ?
*tangent*
Gio! Do you remember having this convo a couple of years ago about Power Commanders? Wasnt it around the time Big Nige used the Site?

2nd to last post

Couldn't find anything about BN tho. Mebbe that was from the previous incarnation of RS
Oh come on, I've been a member of RS since January 2001 total posts are somewhere around 25k. I can point you at some people who'd do that in 2 years and they ride their bikes.TwinNut wrote:16611 posts!!!! F**k me, you must never ride your bike, good to look at from your desk though..........
I once tried to do 50 posts a day, could only keep it up for 3 weeks after that it caused (or would have) multiple same as, same as threads

I can't see how could a chip be more flexible than a PC TBH. If a chip adjusts to conditions you mention, a PC - working on top of a chip's map - will have it's baseline adjusted just as well. It just adds or deducts some fuell from fitted chip's map, it doesn't replace the chip! So the system works as usual.Kwackerz wrote:A chip and airkit will work anywhere, any level, with the computer altering things to suit. East Anglia, fine, The Alps, fine

If you can make a super-precise map for your bike with your mods and even your place, it should be an advantage I guess? Any chip has just two maps burned in it and that's it. If you, for example, open your airbox - and it is still fine - good. But would be better with a custom map, wouldn't it?
The only - but huge - disadvantage of a PC route is cost involved IMHO. That's why mine is still waiting for a custom map...
EDIT: I have been testing 3rd map trying to find something to suit my Blueflames, I've found one that was nearly perfect apart from hesitation at 2200-2800 on steady throttle... Tweaked it a bit (not knowing what I was doing of course) and it is sorted! Now I can cruise at any RPM without any jerking, open the throttle mid turn any gear.

I've got a PCIII (setup on the dyno) on mine and I noticed how smooth it made the bike feel straight away. It was fitted to sort the fuelling which was way too lean with the Airkit and Rene cans fitted, but it also gave (a little) more power.
£300 worth? Not too sure but at least I've got peace of mind that the fuelling is okay.

They call it mellow yellow.
