dvla
i recieved a letter from the dvla sat, informing me to renew my photo card driveing license.whats i'm worried about after recent press reports that the dvla in some cases have lost records of rider entitlement and that photo copying your old license is'nt prove of me passing my test.is there any thing i can do or am i worrying over nothing.

Wasn't there something in MCN about this.
You need to send in a self addressed return envelope and a note requesting return of your old licence.
You can apparently do it at the Post Office now too! Might be safer. doesn't look like you send the old one in this way if you don't present it

I did mine at the P.O.
Both parts of the licence still get sent off.
I asked specifically about the stories of lost entitlements.
It was fully accepted that it happens, and the only suggestion forthcoming was that I photocopied the original, which we all know is a worthless exercise.
Tims suggestion seems to be the safest.

In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.

Never had a photocard license - still using old my old paper one.
Don't like the photo ones - ID cards by the back door
Not that I'm paranoid, you understand, but you never know who's watching . . .

I don't have this problem as I don't have one of these new-fangled picture licenses.
However I do have proof of my entitlements.
As I sometimes drive vehicles for work, my employer has an obligation to check my status as a driver. They used to photocopy our licenses each year but apparently that is no longer good enough to demonstrate that they have done what they must - so they have to check with the DVLA. We have to fill out a mandate authorising the DVLA to divulge the info, they apply, pay the fee and the DVLA send an official reply showing driving entitlements and (for those that collect them) any points.
I asked my employer for a copy.
So if work can request this information from the DVLA then, for the fee, you must be able to too.

My licence is due for renewal next March and this is the approach I will be taking about late January timeAladinsaneuk wrote:report license as lost and apply for new one
I believe that that is fool proof - that way if you lose entitlement, then you can suddenly find the old one
