Time to wake this bit of the forum again .....

#1 Post by D-Rider » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:51 am

Now that I've MOTd and taxed it, I've started commuting on my lad's scooter - the Aprilia Sonic - 50cc of vibrating 2-stroke mayhem.
He doesn't use it any more - preferring to take the car to work / college / wherever.

Accelerates well to 30 .... creeps up to 35 then falters (surge/cut/surge) but with a bit of a favourable slope will edge up to 40 and hold it there (without the surge stuff).

Doesn't really make much difference to the commuting time and I hope will save some cash compared to riding the Falco.

You do realise that you will now have to ride it like you stole it!
i.e. much more agressively than the Falco.
You only seem to have two options with these little things.
The other option is drive at 30mph right in the side of the road with all the debri, broken glass, nails, screws and previous contents of all the new pot holes and let all the White Van men and delivery truck drivers come past at their normal 30 limit speed of 35 to 40mph and shove you into the gutter.
It scares me when I see young kids suffering this. You can "own" the centre of your side of the road on a bike.
So it's back to the first option, say Feck the lot of 'em and drive like a complete loony, ducking in and out of the lanes of traffic.
Don't forget you need to leave every set of traffic lights 1/2 second before they go to amber as you need to get a jump on all the reps and vans who will drop the clutch on amber.
Are you ready for this challenge Andy? :smt017
Otherwise you'd better get the car out!

Nah it's fine - it's the fastest thing away from the lights and you've hit 30 before anything catches you. It's not restricted to 30 either so most of the time it keeps up around town. The 40mph uphill dual carriageway near work is the worst bit .... gets to about 35 up there but I hold my ground.

Back to the days of the throttle being a switch (and remembering not to pull the "clutch" lever)

*chuckles* I missed that one

Must be my turn to kick this bit of the forum and see what drops out.
The eldest son recently got me an RS125!

...in bits...

to rebuild...

Although whether it'll ever get running is another subject!
