Please drink to a guardian angel.
I need you all to raise a glass to a guy who saved my brothers life on Friday morning.
It was a bizarre freak accident on Oxford Rd Reading. He fell off his push bike (we don't know yet if another vehicle was involved) but he came down and the handlebar end pierced his groin and severed his main artery. A guy in van across the road watched events unfolding and when his jeans tuned red in a matter of seconds he ran across to help.
This guy (we now know his name) was ex-forces and trained in battlefield emergancy first aid. He kept my bro talking and applied pressure but couldn't stem the flow. He resorted to plunging his finger into the wound, finding the artery and plugged it with his finger, occassionally releasing the flow because he realised his leg was starved of blood. He had to scream at the people standing by to call 999.
The ambulance took 4.5 minutes to get there. The surgeon said if not for this guy Bro would have passed out in 3 minutes and been dead after another minute or so.
This morning the surgeon has said when he arrived at A&E the options were so poor the the loss of his leg would been the best they could hope for.
He's doing well this morning and has his leg and his life.
God bess those good men and women who fight for our country and serve the public in any way they can. God bless this man especially. It seems especially appropriate today of all days.
Cheers.

When we hear so much about how bad things have become and how bad people are becoming in our society it's good to hear the other accounts of people doing good - the actions of the quiet heroes out there. There is more of a balance than we sometimes give credit for.
Of course we'd all prefer your brother wasn't hurt in the first place - but life isn't a smooth path and I think it would be unbearable if we didn't have a mix of highlights and tougher times.
Best wishes to all your family Dave as your concerns for your brother's recovery continue and a big thank you to the guy that saved his life and the medical staff that have now taken over.... and prayers for the continued recovery of your brother.
I'll raise my glass to them.

Thanks for all your good wishes . Bro is doin fine and making good progress. Met the guy who helped him and the surgeon who operated - wonderful people.
Oh yes.... if anyone lives lives in Reading bro says sorry - it was his fault the Oxford Rd was closed for two hours on Friday morning.
Thanks again
