How quickly the winds can change
26 days ago I was still working and struggling with lower back pain, fatigue and loss of appetite, my GP gave me a thorough check, took some bloods and referred me for an MRI scan and told to get in touch if anything worsened.
She rang me that evening to say my blood tests revealed a few abnormalities
My health nosedived over the weekend so I saw her on Monday, my appetite had disappeared, fatigue and nausea were key players now,she also tagged a chest x ray onto tha MRI later that day.
Again she rang me back in the evening to explain the x Ray's were not pretty and I needed a CT scan to verify any suspicion.
She got back to me with the MRI results a few days later, lung cancer and a secondary cancer on my spine, she had also arranged a meeting with my Oncology team who are amazing.
I start my radiotherapy on Tuesday , lung biopsy on Wednesday
How she got from back pain to this, some very clever reading between the lines !
Anyway, it's a bit shit but not a death sentence yet !
Fuck you cancer, the Motogp just started

Jeez, Paul I bet that took the wind out of your sails... Glad that it was diagnosed early and correctly and good to see that you're taking the fight to the invader. Repel all boarders!
Best of luck mate, and please keep us posted on progress.

Jeez that's rubbish news to a rubbish year. Still, a least the MotoGP is better in 2020!

Thanks all,
Cancer treatment now is a lot more refined these days,no longer a case of if the cancer doesn't kill you the chemo probably will!
Fuck it, I'm digging in and getting ready for the battle, my middle finger raised

Dammit, I was all up for the 'things were bad but now they're better' thread
As all are saying, treatments are a lot better than they used to be so you've definitely got the right attitude! Stay dug in and shout if you need cheering up!

ooft, good attitude, good luck
Re: How quickly the winds can change
Wishing you the best, mate.
Re: How quickly the winds can change
Good luck Paul, i hope you have the same outcome as my sister in law. She had lung cancer and was given about 20% chance of survival, she has now been given the all clear without any surgery but will have to remain on immunotherapy which is a small price to pay.
Re: How quickly the winds can change
Thanks,
I'm determined to laugh in the face of It, I renewed the bike insurance just before the diagnosis.
I have no doubt that the various treatments will make me feel awful but just fuck off cancer, fuck off !

All the best for a quick treatment and a long, disreputable life ahead of you!
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.
Re: How quickly the winds can change
A meeting with the Oncology team this morning revealed that it wont be a long life...
But I will do all I can to make it disreputable!!!!
Its type4 unpronouncable cancer, non operable but various chemo treatments will borrow me some time, no idea how fast or slow this will be, yet.
Good time to head to the bar

I really don't know what to say Paul. They've basically told you that a happy ending to this story is off the menu? That it's just a question of how long rather than there being any hope of a cure?
In that situation I'd be looking at alternative therapies that involve extracts from a plant that has differing legal status in different parts of the world...

Re: How quickly the winds can change
Not wonderful news.
I'd go with Graham's herbal options. You may not have long but you can run up a hell of a bar tab while you doing it. Course, if the chemo works you might have a few big fellas turn up on your doorstep with pointy sticks and the bill but living dangerously makes it all worthwhile

Really sorry to read that. Maybe you won't have long but maybe you will. The chairman of the bike club I used to belong to was given 6 months. 6 years and several changes of bike later he finally let go. I hope you live it all whether it's short or long!
