Anterior tibial compartment syndrome
Due to the ineptitude of a few people in the medical profession, I have been diagnosed with Anterior tibial compartment syndrome. Seriously not impressed. I had a major crush injury 10 years ago, that got treated by a German hospital. They made a diagnosis, and the powers that be decided they knew better, sent me on physio that made it worse and now I have been told that the damage is so extensive that even surgery will not be able to do anything. A bit gutted as it is now affecting normal life, to the extent that even using the bike is becoming annoying.
A few people are surprised I have managed to keep my job this long, but it looks like I will be able to start looking for a new one in the new year, which may not be a bad thing.
Rant over, carry on normal jogging.

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.

The doc is looking at medical discharge as there is nothing they can do and it was a work related incident, I will be claiming with the legion when I get out. The worst part is the fact that I may have to stop riding, as it is now becoming harder to change gear, and the vibration is shooting up the front of the leg.
Alternatives I have thought about, fit a quick shifter so I do not have to flex the shin, Aprilia Mana
just doesn't quite cut the mustard with modding, or aesthetics, or give up totally, which isn't good at all
The usual response from our lot is take some ibuprofen and have a tubigrip.

Never give up!
Look at this...... http://www.kliktronic.co.uk/
You might have to change the bike you ride for more comfort for your leg but that does NOT mean I'm suggesting a Harley!
I've had to go to a trike cos I can't hold a bike up with my left leg and much as I love my trike I'd rather be on 2 wheels but it's better than being always stuck in a car.
Onwards and downwards it may be but heck, life's like that anyway!

No Harleys coming this way. The Falco is comfortable, but long term it may mean swapping to something else. I do like the idea of the shifter, whether it be that one or getting a dynojet one, but definitely worth looking into.BikerGran wrote: You might have to change the bike you ride for more comfort for your leg but that does NOT mean I'm suggesting a Harley!

They spent 7 years plying me with brufen before they even bothered xraying my back, then a further 4 years til lo and behold in a German stadtklinik they did an MRI and found my back was fekked in at least 4 places from 3 different ailments/conditions.. cue much doing of fuck all by 'the system' before eventually they decided I was out of the scope of the physio, rehab or remedials and just leave me to do my own thing.
20 years out of a 23 year career (so far) spent downgraded.. I fully sympathise with the ineptitude of 'the system' I shall shortly be investigating some compensation from them for their crapness and for the fact I couldnt progress thru the ranks past fullscrew despite gleaming CR's for the last 8 years
Speak to the Legion most definately, and before you get out. They are quite expert at ripping the medical side of the military apart.

I have to see the MO on Monday, she is blunt but honest for once and questioned how I have been able to stay in so long with out being MD'd. She is also the first person to say that I have total tissue damage in the affected area, and how anyone else has missed that is beyond her. Looking at P7 on Monday, and a chat to the legion as I am still on 75.

Hope things get sorted out and some improvement is possible for you.
Don't really want to start suggesting alternative bikes at this stage ..... though we do need a Mana on the forum .... mixing manual and auto changing as the fancy takes you.

Re: Anterior tibial compartment syndrome
You may be able to make a claim against either the German Hospital that first treated you, or against the medical profession in this country depending on certain facts.Falconihlist wrote:Due to the ineptitude of a few people in the medical profession, I have been diagnosed with Anterior tibial compartment syndrome. As you are possibly aware, there is what is called statute of limitation. What this means is that the claimant has three years to issue proceedings against the defendants, and this statute of limitation commences from date of injury or date of knowledge, whichever is the sooner. In your case, it sounds like date of knowledge would apply but it would depend on when you first became aware of the problem you now have, and whether the medical experts should have diagnosed this at the time.
Medical negligence claims are based on the question "Was the treatment you were given" reasonable for the symptoms and would another doctor have done things differently? Or should your condition and potential problems have picked up on sooner?
It would certainly probably be worth further investigation.
Even if it was the German Hospital that screwed up, and providing you are within the statute of limitation, then any claim can still be handled here in the UK by a UK law firm as new legislation came into force a while ago that states that if a claimant was injured overseas but the financial losses or limitations ore ongoing here in the UK, then jurisdiction can be transferred to the UK legal system.
If the Germans and the National Health (or other medical professionals) screwed up, then you may have a claim against both but obviously a lot more information would need to be obtained before a decision could be made.
I would be happy to have a no obligation chat with you.
If you would like me to call you and chat this through with you, then feel free to drop me a PM with a contact number and I will be happy to give you a call. If there was a case, then it will not cost you anything to run the case either.
Happy to help if I can.

Cheers for the advice TC. I have spoken to the legion, and they are a font of all knowledge when it comes to this. Due to the pension scheme I am on, Have to wait till I am out, before they do anything. If I was on the new scheme, not a problem, but it would affect my overall pension going onto that.

Given the statute of limitation, then if it were to affect your pension, then that would have a bearing on your claim, or are you one of those affected under the crown proceedings act?Falconihlist wrote:Cheers for the advice TC. I understand your dilemma, but just be aware that they may well be putting any chance you have of making a claim at risk by delaying.Falconihlist wrote:What I have been told is, if I was on the new scheme, I can put in a claim and they process it there and then. As I am on the old scheme, they only process it on discharge. I can apply, but nothing happens until I am out.
Hope everything works out for you OK.
