Whilst tinkering over the weekend I noticed my stock air filter has a split in the rubber, is it worth replacing with a K&N? or is there no difference to standard (apart from being 4 x the price )

I would love the evo/renegade upgrade but funds are a tad tight for any more playthings

Any one got any experience/recommenrdations?

My experience of em is limited; Ive only ever tried one and it was in my 04 zx6r. Made a noticable difference, but nothing too dramatic. Merely smoothed things out more all the way up the revs and gave the impression of a tad more power throughout.
Which was nice.
Maybe nicer on a twin though...?

I have a K&N fited along with road legal Beowulf Titanium oval cans and they work great. Fitted them both at same time so can't be sure what it would have been like with just the filter. The advice I got from Beowulf was that if I left the baffles in the cans, they should work fine with the standard chip, but would work better with a K&N kit or similar, so tried it.
Got rid of flat spot around 5k and seems much smoother through the range. Also feels to have more mid range power in general, but never tested on a dyno.

Well on my bike its the Renegade air filter, however I had a K&N on my Blackbird, didn't notice any difference tbh (it had 162 hp at the rear wheel and as it'd been rejetted as well) I think 99% of people wouldn't notice if a filter would make any.

On my CB500 tho it did as with 52hp (wheel) instead of the stock 47hp (at the crank), but thats too far in the past to remember accurately.

A Piper Cross air filter came with my Renegade air plate.

Now she's just so smooth and growls like a wild thing

Do the home-made renegade style airbox removal conversion. Same price effect guarateed. Do the search.

I wouldn't expect too much from K&N filter alone. It's basically the same thing as a stocker, only different material.etter of course, cleanable etc., but worth 400% ? Doubt it.
