Couple of Q's on the Mille swinger

I've finally started sorting the Mille arm but having never really given the thing much of a look over I started Dremeling the rough bits last night. Whilst working away I noticed the arm had what look like creases on the left side. See pics below. First question is whether all arms have these creases in them or is mine a dud?

I'd also appreciate it if someone with a another loose Mille swinger would measure this distance in mm i.e. the clear aperture between either side arm in which the wheel etc slots. I guess it should be the same as the Falco's but getting an accurate measurement while it's still fitted to the bike is difficult. Mine measures 232mm and I want to know if it's straight or if it's been whacked.....the creases have got my wondering.

I can't answer your questions yet. I've bought my swingarm but haven't picked it up yet. I'll take the measurements when it's here (weekend perhaps?).

Is there an usual exhaust ding in yours? If so, what are you going to do about it (if anything)? I'm planning to use a filler, sand it and powder coat it black to match the frame (or not to repair it and anodise it black?). First need to get Mille shock, though.

Have you ever though of making some kind of 'swingers party' :smt002 somewhere near to all interested, and have a few bikes converted in one day (and night) with a bit of cerveza in a meantime? That would be nice. We could even invite someone that already has done it on his Falco, free beer for the guy or something :smt003

Looking at the quality of the weld near that ding, compared to the rest of the swinger, that looks like it's been repaired to me?

Deffo damaged and/or repaired imo.
Looks like the bloody sprocket dissolved and fired forwards, taking out a chunk of the swinger. Or maybe the chain snapped and got wedged?
If its been repaired it prolly would have had both arms realigned in the process?
Mine had some snapped-chain damage to it, (now all but 'brushed/polished' out :smt003 ), and Ive seen ones with the usual ding from the endcan, (it is rather close fitting on the gearchange side!), but neither showed any creasing.
(My swinger doesnt have the creases anywhere).
To the best of my, (admittedly limited), knowledge; If you bend or crease alloys incorrectly, (ie with brute force/impact), you will get stress fractures forming as the long alloy molecules are over stretched and often break-up.
Did that sound like I knew what I was talking about??? :smt017
In a nutshell I wouldnt use it. :smt018
Just my opinion mind... :smt006

I have started the clean down on the one I have - and it looks a damn site better than that!

Plan is to clean mine up totally, then to have it cloned next week or week after - then we see what we have left - and TN has first dibs on it !

(He was going to have it anyway - just things have been delayed.... and having spent an hour polishing and cleaning one side of the swingarm... f*** me this is going to look sexy

Too right, what can possibly go wrong

I just measured my wall decoration again to confirm the gap of mine is 258mm but i just realised yours is the old shape :smt003 Still a big difference though? although i do remember reading that the 04 arm pulls in a bit to make up difference

Ahhh, so that's why it was only £50, it was a scrap price! :smt082.........:smt088...............sshhhhhh, don't tell Exdukenut though that maybe he was right on the old price argument, he'll be as smug as a Man Utd supporter at an Eric Cantona love-in. :smt006

Oh well, the search starts again. That'll teach me to look a bit harder next time.......so anyone got a spare Mille Swinger???

Not off ebadger but bought from the thick-ass muppet at MDL Spares in Warrington.... http://www.motorcyclesandparts.com/ to this day I've never been in there and found what I wanted, ever. When I was looking for a GSX-R sidestand (which he didn't have by the way, of any denomination!) I stumbled over the Mille arm resting against the counter. I asked had it been damaged or if it was off a scrapper and he said 'no' but it was so covered in shite (the place is a bomb-site) that I took his word for it and haven't touched it since.

Cheers for the offer but I'm not crazy about the '04 arm on the Falco. At £69 though looks like I wasn't a million miles away on price then.....

Talking of swinger can anyone shed any light on the plates which seem to be additions on this swingarm? There's some blurb on it lower down the ad but it's inconclusive. Did the Edwards rep have these plates on it's swingarm as standard? seems a bit odd......... :smt017 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

Hi TN, the parts stuck on the arm are official Aprilia parts (or, at least, Aprilia do make parts the same). Not sure whether they were add-ons or whether they came standard on any models.

Here's one of the bits on the RSVR website:
