Not really a discussion just my story of the conversion.

I bought Johnl's HIDS4U mille kit from him after the nice chap at HIDS4U said he would do a straight swap for the slightly used H4 for a new H7 for the postage.

So got the kit swapped the bulb and fitted them (eventually, lots of swearing and skinned knuckles). Poxy thing took about a dozen goes before it would fire and stay lit.

Spoke to Johnl, who had no problems. Spoke to HIDS4U, they got me to post it to them and sorted the problem different bulb needed (the old ballast unit didn't work with the new bulb type) and posted it back.

OK so not too technical, but the real reason for posting is that Ian at HIDS4U couldn't do enough to help even although he wasn't making anything fromthe deal. He swapped the H7 for the H4 (only 20 hours use) for the postage cost. Then did the check and supplied the right bulb for the ballast again for postage only. Pretty much by return of post too.

Now that's what I call customer care, well worth dealing with them.

No I don't get any royalties for this.

I keep meaning to order a kit, gonna buy one of their kits for the new mota too (fiat panda 100HP woo hoo collected it today!)

Just came across this message, I`m sorry that the ballast wouldn`t work with newer bulbs, I had no idea that they had changed them.... sorry mate

I'm utterly confused here, I thought ballast was weight introduced to make something stable

It's a high voltage (~20k volts) unit to 'start' the bulb a bit like a flourescent tube.

They call it 'family' as well.

I always thought it was a combination of flux capacitor and Transformer...

Like a Decepticon (but less like Megatron and more like Galvatron.)

No problem John, the only thing wasted was time and that wasn't an issue. Ian at HIDS4U was able to sort it all out very easily. None of us were to know that the bulbs/ballast combo wasn't right. It is now and it's all good.

Thanks for the tip about not looking at the bulb when testing, however I did when buggering about in the shed at night with a torch. Quickly switched the bulb off again, but could see bugger all for a couple of mins, fek me they're bright.
