Changed the oil for the first time and wondered why the sump plug bolt was only finger tight. Well, after attempting to tighten it back up I now know it's because whoever did it last stripped the flippin' threads

After reading several similar stories on the this 'ere forum and the advice re: helicoils and possible oil tank replacements I just wondered which was the quickest, simplest option. I use the bike for commuting each morning so ideally I would like to get it done as quickly as possible without the bike being off the road too long. I know no-one wants to be without their loved one for long but what would people recommend...helicoil or a second-hand tank? And is tank replacement a pain to get done or do-able in an evening?

as it happens i do happen to have a spare falco oil tank in good order - yours for 15 quid plus postage

and easy job to do to change them over BUT

I would stock up on spare jubilee clips... and call me an old cynic but i always keep a length of oil pipe aroun jyst in case - ie, get spare bits in in case anything breaks - will not cost much but makes it easy

Take the spare tank and buy a helicoil kit and fix the other one when it's off. Once helicoiled it's fixed and unlikely to strip out again.

Aladinsane, I'll take you up on your kind offer if I may. I'll pm you about the details and hit the motor factors to get in a bulk order of clips and a spare section of oil pipe.

And, as per Falcopops advice, I'll get the old one sorted so it's always on stand-by should I find myself dealing with dripping oil again

np - will sort out weight etc - likely to be heavy though - and i assume you want it asap?

Let me know what hose clamps you need, I can supply A2 stainless ones from £0.77 - £1.30 each depending on the size you need.
