Exhausts

OK, been looking for a pair of cans for my falco for a while now and they seem to always go for lots of money so this got me thinking.

Is it possible/worthwhile/going to affect anything if I changed to a single exhaust ala mille?

If I go down this route what is involved is it just a case of changing the headers?

Thanks

Mike

Been there, done that - they don't do a t-shirt.

OK you need to change the oil tank to a mille one as the mille exhaust doesn't clear the Falco one (though it could be possible to chop the Falco one down and re-weld it)
Then with the oil tank changed there is the issue of routing the oil piping to the Falco oil cooler - that's what i did at first but far neater to fit a mille oil cooler - which I have now.

If you have a skidmarx bellypan it will need a bit of modifying to fit round the mille oil tank and oil cooler.

if you do change to a mille oil tank, go for one of the rsvr or factory ones - shiny stainless version - these are a lot more forgiving when it comes to the belly pan modification - iirc around a 1/4 inch needs to be dremelled off

Don't tell him that - I've one of the black ones I'm trying to sell !
.... and although the stainless ones look a bit shinier, there is no difference between them when it comes to fitting the bellypan.

Not quite as straight forward as I might have hoped but not too complex. From those that have what sort of costs are involved with getting all the mille stuff?

Ok been looking on the bay and some headers look a little different to others. Is there a particular year / model that I need?

Also wouldn't want a shiny tank as prefer things to be stealth as opposed to bling.

Yes, the mille exhaust mid-section changed during the lifetime of the bike.
Both fit and opinions differ as to which is "best".
I have the later version with the straighter pipe run from the front header.

So I have picked up a set of exhaust headers. How much would you want for the oil tank?

And then we are saying I just need an oil cooler and link pipe and of course a link pipe and can?

a length of oil pipe can be fitted so you can use your existing oil cooler - i have gone for that route.... i guess i may switch over at some point but i see no need too

It's what I did at first and although I think I made as neat a job of it as possible, the pipework is nowhere near as neat as using the Mille cooler.
The disadvantage with the Mille cooler is that one of the hoses connects in such a way that it doesn't fit within a Skidmarx bellypan and the dremmel has to be called into action.

Mad Hatter .... I'd love seventeen billion quid for the oil tank but get the feeling that I might not do quite that well .... can't remember what they go for or what I paid for it so I'll do a bit of research and get back to you.

Right this single exhaust thing isnt quite as straight forward as I first thought.

Got the old exhaust off. Rear cylinder is fun!!

Puts new exhaust on and .... it fouls the swingarm!! FFS is nothing straight forward. Then tried to fit the new oil tank. Also doesnt fit. Seems the one I have is of an 04 mille with the twin oil cooles so is a completely different fit and the pipework gets in the way. Then whilst under the fairings I notice the coolant pipe to the left hand rad is a little close to the engine so pulls it back a bit to find it had welded itself to the engine and is now split.

Now on the shopping list is a new oil tank that fits, new pipe that isnt split and do I bend the headers to fit or go the costly route and buy a mille swingarm.

God I love bikes but this has now put me off the road until I can get the bits so any help would be gratefully received with either parts or advice.
