just been out playing with jadaris bike and fitted the new indicators....

bum'oles - the new ones are 12v 23w and don't want to work

Now I am not an electrician so - hence asking for advice

do i need to change the flasher? I do have a spare FRU1 Flash-it universal one hanging around the shed - no idea on specification of it though.....

all advice gratefully received :)

OK, the manual tells me that standard ones are 10W

It's not easy to fix this with resistors as the relay (driving 2 bulbs) expects to supply about 1.7A.
A pair of the new ones will draw 3.8A .... which will screw up the flash rate.

You could stick a resistor in series to limit the current and get the right flash rate but that would dim the bulbs by limiting the current and dropping the voltage across them .... so not a good idea!
(If only this was the other way round, we could stick some resistors in parallel with the bulbs)

The most simple solution would be to replace the bulbs in the new indicators with 10W bulbs ... job done.
Otherwise, source a new relay or find a nice electronic flasher that won't care about the load.

And as the stock bulbs are still about - will be cheap !

Happy to help .... even when it is stating the obvious

this electronic flasher unit sounds good , my indicators flash ok on the right, but when sitting a trafik lights the left will stop flashing after a minute or 2, usually i have the foot on my break or front lever, if i rev the bike a wee bit they will start to flash again , i always drive with my head light on too,would this unit solv the problem , and if i fit LED do you still require resistors with this flasher unit,

As for resistors, it depends on the LED units you buy - thes would be to current-limit the LEDs rather than set the flash rate of an electronic flasher module.

No idea where you can get them from - if I was going to fit one, I'd have a look at what was out there (I expect you can get them) or maybe I'd make one myself.

And it was cold - so cold jadaris even threatened to put underwear on

get a 2 pin flasher unit from Halfords - around a fiver. Plugs straight in in place of the Aprilia unit and works with proper 21w bulbs.

found the halfords flasher - will either get one or 4 replacement bulbs - the new indicator bulbs are smaller than the oem ones :(

(Would rather change bulbs if i can - leave as much standard as i can!)

am glad to say it was a bit grim

Hell of a shock - I thought that Jadaris was going to have a stroke - turns out she couldn't reach though

ok - job now fettled

the indicators were a yank import - very cheap as it hapens

now the bulbs - 12v/23w in this size of bulb effectively do not exist in the uk... merkan only it seems

so - £4.59 later and a cheap flasher unit was fitted - and all is cushtie in the world

(Think the flasher unit supports up to 94w so am safe :) ! )
