Hi all.
Just noticed my horn isn't working. When pressing the button I only get a short beep/clunk sound. Sometimes it works for a few seconds but goes back to dead after.

Are the known to fail? Is this fixable or should I be looking for a new one?
Found some rsv one on ebay, but how do I get the old bugger out?

sounds like a shitty contact to me. IMO a horn either works or doesnt!

take the electrical connections off the horn and clean them up a bit. its probably not getting the power it needs. if that fails, check all the earthing points on the bike!

Is there an easy way of getting to it?

Mine was causing fuses to blow last year, I thought it was the horn itself, it turned out that both leads were worn almost all the way through due to touching the frame.

Had to replace the horn unit a year ago for MOT, after fiddling with the switches and finding they were OK I eventually found the horn, just ran some leads direct from the battery across it and it was dead. I think, cos of where it is, it can get crapped up and can fail.

ok, how do I take the old one out? Hope I don't have to take the whole bike apart...

If it happens to be the horn itself, I do have a spare that works.

took me ages to find it - it's above the radiators, in line with the front wheel. Not difficult to get to, can't remember what I had to take off to get at it, think it was just the lower fairing (not the painted bits)

You need to remove numbers 5 & 6 below

and if it is a wiring problem, you need to remove the right hand fairing panel.

That would be my suggestion, too, going on experience with some of my earlier bikes. But I don't know how well protected your horn is.

Ok, I'll get to it tomorrow, will check both, the switch and the horn itself, kinda expected I'll need to take the bike apart for this one :D

I have a Nautilus on the shelf but I don't fancy playing with the extra relay and the wiring again.

Never been quick enough to use my horn. Usually give them a 'rev' instead, or a menacing 'indicator flash'

At lower speeds, the benefits of a flip-up helmet are revealed; the profanities are far more audible to the indended recipient.

Actually I'm surprised it took so long :D

Took the switch apart, shorted the pins out - the same.
Took the bugger out, tried on a battery, the same thing.
Ebay, here I come.
