I have the usual underseat tool kit, which I think is actually very good and comprehensive.
only thing is it comes with 2 large ring spanners. A 32mm for the back wheel spindle,
and a 22mm, which i a first thought was for the front wheel nut, but this turns out to be 30mm.
is this the wrong part in the kit? should it be 30mm, or what does this fit, and what are you supposed to use on the front spindle nut?
don`t really want to carry a 1ft long ring spanner with me when i`m touring!

take out RAC membership - then you do not need any tools while touring - and do make sure that you get the coverage for europe or wherever you are going....

Not been to check, but I think yours is as it comes.

Mind you, I'm not too sure why you'd be wanting to remove the front wheel spindle - if you need a new tyre they'll have the necessary tools at the place you buy the tyre from. Are you also planning on carrying a front padock stand to hold the front up?

I think the 32mm is provided more for chain adjustment than major repairs (not that I'm sure I could get enough leverage to slacken the nut with the ring in the tool kit).

My toolkit has been used more for others than myself ... me being a member wouldn't help .

I have free breakdown cover from Caz Nash insurance. *touches wood* Never had to use it

There is a oval piece of tube in the kit to extend the ring spanner handle so that you can undo the nut.......assuming you torqued it up correctly in the first place not just kin-tight!

well if I got a puncture on an autobahn, i`d have the front wheel out and get one of the other guys to take it to get repaired, save waiting for a tow truck.
also like to be able to work on the bike when traveling.
I`ve had to change a wheel bearing on one of my mates bikes, when we were out green laning b4.
saved a ruined day, bought one about 10 miles from breakage and were going again in 1 1/2 hrs.
I did take out a rescue policy with Bennets, but when i`ve looked at it i think I have bought one that doesn`t cover me for Europe, even though I told them that was what i wanted it for.
they also hicked my excess from £200 to £375, and forgot to mention it (said they would have when I phoned them) then tried to sell me legal expenses instead.
I`m thinking of changing insurance company next time round, as this lot aren`t filling me with confidence.

Good points XR - yes, I guess it does make sense.

I'm also lucky in that my insurance chucks in breakdown cover (Classic bike policy with Footman James - my CB400F is the classic and I'm allowed the Falco as a second bike - even though it's the only one that runs at present)
