Got talking to a aprilia rider in the pub worried sick about his engine burning oil he spent a small fortune at his dealer with no result. In conversation he told me the problem started after he had a new clutch fitted.!!
This set alarm bells ringing for me as i remembered reading about a similar problem anyhow cutting a long story short we had the cover off his clutch and yes a small nick in the rubber diaphragm was found. some carefully applied brake cleaner and a puncture outfit patch provided a repair and guess what no more burning oil

My falco have started to use oil, smell, and smoke.
I read this thread yesterday and decided to check out the clutch today and, yes the diaphragm had a small hole(see pic 6). how much oil are there supposed to be between the clutchcover and the diaphragm ?
There were about 10-15 cl oil in mine( see pic. 4)

I'm pretty certain that when I changed my clutch plates to Barnett ones the space between the casing and the diaphragm was completely dry on my Falco.

I dont even remember seeing that much oil anywhere but I had put the bike on the stand to prevent me from even having to drain the oil

Hope I'm wrong in this case for once !

Thanks for the the reply falco 9, but why do you hope that your wrong.
I´m happy if i change the diaphragm and it will solve my problem. I was ready to take the engine out, and change the pistons ring.

Yeh, not having to rebuild an engine, just replace a diaphragm seems pretty good news to me too!
Hope it has cured it.

Another reported cause of clutch slipping problems can often be a plastic non return valve that lives some ware up above the clutch and connected to a tube up to the air box but I never found mine when I wanted to check it..
